Up for sale is my 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport. It has the 4.0 liter 6 cylinder and an automatic transmission. This is a good running and driving street legal vehicle that will need some attention. Please read below. I have a clear title in my name. The good: The interior is in great condition. My mother drove this for the first 175k or so and took very good care of it. The hood and roof have been recently painted and clear coated in a professional body shop. This was not due to an accident. The Jeep had been parked under a tree that dropped sap on it and eventually ate through the paint. It has a fresh water pump (about 3,000 miles ago - Napa re-manufactured unit). The exhaust from the cat back is pretty new (installed by Midas). The Alpine head unit is a few years old but works perfectly and is included. If I can find the factory cassette player, I will include it too. A factory shop manual is included. The battery is less than a year old (Wal-Mart brand) I tuned it up within the last 10,000 miles with new Bosch plugs, Bosch plug wires, distributor cap, rotor and air filter. The tow hitch is a factory item. The vehicle has the factory tow package on it. The transfer case fluid was replaced within the last 1,000 miles I have always changed the oil at 3,000 mile intervals. The last change was at 189,000 miles. It has a new hub / wheel bearings on the front drivers side. The bad: This is a high mileage vehicle. The majority of these miles were highway but the Jeep still shows signs of it's age. The engine leaks oil. I'm not sure where it is all coming from. I am certain that it has a rear main seal leak and a valve cover gasket leak. I'm not sure about the rest of it. A good friend of mine suspected that oil was coming out from around the distributor but neither of us is certain. It will mark its territory wherever you park it. You can smell oil burning off from under the hood whenever you are done running it. The engine does not "consume" any oil through the combustion process. Any loss of oil comes out through gaskets and seals on the exterior of the motor itself. The smell of burning oil is created by leaked oil burning off of hot engine components. It is not burned in combustion and expelled through the tailpipe. The loss of oil in this engine is so minimal that I have not noticed any measurable amount missing between 3,000 mile oil changes The exhaust manifold has a small crack in it somewhere. My mechanic noted this when he installed the water pump. I was told that it will not pass it's next Pennsylvania inspection without this being fixed. There is an electrical gremlin that I haven't fully investigated. It has started (eventually) every time I have tried but sometimes when you turn the key nothing will happen. Basically, all of the interior lights, dash lights, radio, etc... will come on when you turn the key to the on position, but when you try and start it, nothing will happen. Not even a click. If you turn it off and re-try a few times it will eventually start with no problem. When the starter does engage, the engine starts easily and quickly. I'm not sure what it is going to take to fix this problem. The Jeep spent several years in the Syracuse, NY area and due to the harsh winters up there it has been exposed to a lot of salt. The body is straight and rust free. The wheels have some corrosion on them and most of the components underneath have a coating of rust. There is no cancerous rust on this Jeep that I know of. The air conditioning, while working to the best of my knowledge, needs charged. I have tried to describe it to the best of my abilities.
