Vehicle Detail

1998 Saturn SW2 5-Speed Twin-Cam Wagon for Parts 97,600 miles. This car has never been modified in any way! It has the desirable twin-cam engine. This car is very clean and I was going to fix it up for my friend. It only needs an exhaust system but we discovered that the steel unibody is just a bit too rusty to fix economically, and not having a professional lift we decided to take a pass on trying to install the exhaust system. It has never been in any accidents. So we are "being green" by recycling every part on this car. The first thing you notice when you open the hood is how clean everything is. My friend was very neat and he liked keeping the engine clean. He is a non-smoker and has never had pets nor kids. The car runs fine, I just had it out and about today. It starts in about 2 seconds due to the new battery I purchased in December. I have a video clip of the engine starting and running for you to watch. This is a one-owner car. He bought it new from a Saturn dealer in 1998. It was manufactured in December of 1997. I have many more very large and clear photos for you to see. Everything works including the A/C, power steering, central remote locking/unlocking, power brakes, etc. Everything. There are no warning lights on at all. We are offering the engine, the 5-speed manual transmission, brake system, airbags, airbag control module, wiring harness, all lighting, doors, glass, rear liftgate, headliner (which is perfect), interior parts, carpet set, seats, dashboard, perfect door panels inside and out, heating system, steering wheel, steering system, bumpers, bumper covers, all trim inside and out, and anything else on the car. The wheels and tires have been promised to a buyer of those items, and we will be putting on original-equipment 14" Saturn steel wheels with tires on Wednesday night. Please e-mail me with any questions about the parts you need and what you think is a FAIR price. We will personally hand-deliver any of these to any destination in New England or New York for $50 or less depending on the cost of what you are purchasing. Some items we can deliver for FREE. As we take parts off they will be degreased and otherwise cleaned. You will not be disappointed in the condition of these parts. As far as pricing goes, we are basically making it up as we go along, and our prices will be set according to fair value that other similar parts sell for. They will be especially reasonable considering the fairly low mileage and our delivery offer. Most smaller parts can be delivered via US Postal Service Priority Mail or First Class Mail for FREE. Thank you! On Apr-24-11 at 17:42:27 PDT, seller added the following information: Sellers: Get your own map of past buyers. Fast. Simple. On Apr-28-11 at 08:39:11 PDT, seller added the following information: OK, so let me 'splain something. This car was supposed to be sold for PARTS ONLY. However, I am learning that the Saturn Wagon, especially the Twin-Cam with the 5-speed manual transmission, is what you would call a Desirable Item. So now that someone has a bid on the entire vehicle, I have temporarily suspended the idea of taking parts off of it to sell one at a time. Let me be as clear and specific on the car itself as possible: There is a hole 2 inches by 3 inches at the rear of the spare tire well. One of the fuel tank straps rusted off and when I moved the car one day the strap started to do a pretty reasonable job of digging a nice trench for planting vegetables in my yard. The fuel tank itself is 100% intact. For model year 1998 Saturn was still using rectangular slots in the unibody (sometimes called a space frame in Saturn lingo) which are attaching points for the plastic door sill protector plates (plastic interior trim pieces that you step over when entering the car). Out of all of these slots, and I believe there are 14 of them (4 for each front door opening and 3 for each rear door opening), the middle slot on the left rear (port side) door opening has rust around it in about a 1.5 inch diameter area. In later model years Saturn stopped punching these slots in the space frame and instead they adhered the plastic interior trim pieces (sill plates) to the car using 3M VHB (Very High Bond) double-sided foam tape. Those are the ONLY areas that will need your attention. Also you will need a full exhaust including the catalytic converter. The battery is NEW. I removed the seats and full interior carpet set to do a thorough inspection of the floor, and to install soundproofing, which was to be the beginning phase of a mild fix-er-up project. This inspection revealed NO rust other than what I detailed above. I am an FAA-licensed A&P mechanic and I always look at stuff carefully. The car has now been reassembled and is still in it's original, stock configuration. Um-messed with, not modified. This car has never been modified with aftermarket parts in any way. It is 100% original and stock. Apparently this is a Very Good Thing in Saturn Land. After this auction has a chance to work itself out, I will either sell the entire car to the highest bidder or if they flake on me (God help you if you do), I will go back to my original plan of selling each part individually, which is to say, as a parts car. This is a really neat and very functional car. You see a few running around New Hampshire and the ones that are left have very loyal owners. It would be well-near impossible to pry their fingers off the steering wheel. The original reason for taking off the cracked and faded plastic piece-of-you-know-what hubcaps was to reveal the interesting steel wheel design, which have not one, but two rows of cooling holes. It's a design with a fair amount of visual interest and by using the stainless-steel trim rings along with the chrome lug nuts, the look I was going after was a workaday, functional, blue-collar, working-stiff kind of industrial / farm implement look. This has been successfully pulled off, as you can see in the photos. Even some very expensive cars, right up to and including Rolls-Royce, used a combination of painted steel wheels with trim rings and a small center cap, and sometimes a thin whitewall on the tire itself. It made for a very attractive wheel design and back then no-one ever said "Eww, look at that cheap car!". There is no nice looking center cap for these wheels so I went with chrome lugnuts. You may want to paint the very center of the actual hub (about a 2" circle) to finish off the look I was after. When you get her home and after you fix the minor things it needs, you might want to remove the tires and send the wheels out to be powder-coated. You can then play around with different colors other than the original satin black to sort of fine-tune the look. I was thinking about having them painted a very dark silver, or maybe olive drab, which would go well with the Gold Beige Metallic paint, and further emphasize the utilitarian /surplus sort of look. Thanks!
