Vehicle Detail

1966 Austin Healey Sprite (VIN is HAN8L64197) quite skillfully crafted into a Bugeye (Frogeye) by a prior owner. Not a true Bugeye, but the best of both worlds. Has 1275cc engine (number 12CG-DA H 10204), front disc brakes, semi-elliptical rear springs, and roll up windows. Four speed Spridget transmission. I have a front bumper with brackets. You can choose an orange smiley grille or a metallic colored one. Virgina titled as a 1966 Austin. It needs brake work and would not pass state inspection, so don’t plan on driving it home. It will have to be trailered or trucked. Engine turns over, but I haven't yet gotten it running. I have drained the gas tank. I bought this car in 2009 near Valdosta, GA. That owner had gotten it from Florida in its current configuration. I have eleven British sports cars. I have not found the time to devote to this charmer. I am now retired and am trying to sort through past acquisitions to arrive at a more manageable level of hoarding! I don’t have room in the garages to work on what I do have. (I also plan to sell a 1964 BRG Morgan +4 and a 1958 red Austin Healey two seater BN6 (100/6) soon, if they interest you. You could ship them all together.) My nineteenth century home needs some standing seam metal roof work, so let us say that I am a motivated seller! I am now 63 years old, six feet tall and 240 pounds. My knees and hips inform me that the contortions necessary for ingress and egress are not as painlessly done as when I had a $300 1959 Bugeye in 1976! (Now I know why my elderly mother made me drive around the corner from the church entrance, so that she could crawl out of my Sprite out of sight of fellow parishioners!) Clear Virginia title is in my name, ready to sign over to buyer. All done as Virginia DMV requires. No short cuts. Sold AS IS, where is. No warranties, express or implied. Actual mileage unknown. Please examine the car and ask questions before you bid, not after. Shipment is buyer’s responsibility and expense. I will make car available to shipper at my home. PayPal for deposit (or for entire amount if you want.) Balance by cash or cleared check (car available for shipment after five business days of your check’s deposit to my bank). I will store the car up to thirty days from auction’s end. Make arrangements with me before you bid if you will need longer than thirty days to pick up the car. Email me via eBay with any questions or with requests for more pictures of specific areas that I can email directly to you. This is for sale locally. I reserve the right to end this auction early. On Apr-22-11 at 11:06:12 PDT, seller added the following information: I have decided not to sell the1964 Morgan or the 1958 Healey BN6. I have received many requests for information and pictures on the BN6, but, at least for now, I will plan to keep both the Morgan and the BN6. Thanks for the interest anyway. 4/22/11 2 PMOn Apr-22-11 at 16:00:13 PDT, seller added the following information: Friday night, 6:40 PM EDT I got the engine running!!!! Let there be great celebration in Hooville!!! I put Marvel Mystery Oil (once again) and new Champion RN9YC plugs hand tight into each spark plug hole, poured gas into float chambers, and, encouraged by a few sprays of starter fluid, she (or "he" if you insist) started and ran until out of gas. (I did not use choke because I was using some starter fluid.) I used the button on the solenoid to engage the starter circuit. I could not do so by twisting the key. (May need a new solenoid?) Parking lights, rear main lights, license plate light, and gauge lights all work. I was in closed garage and raining outside, so that will have to do for tonight. Clutch slave cylinder and probably brake and clutch master cylinders should be rebuilt. I could hear fuel pump clicking away, but I had already drained gas tank (which some shippers may require). For future reference to whoever buys it, it is wired negative ground, but the red wire is the ground (bolted into the firewall) and in this case the red wire goes to the negative battery terminal. The black wire is positive and goes to the starter solenoid. So get your negative ground eight-track tape player ready to install and let the good times roll.On Apr-23-11 at 11:25:51 PDT, seller added the following information: My direct email is hughleavell@yahoo.com. My phone is (540) 887-2597. Feel free to call with any questions or requests for pictures. This morning I noticed something that I had forgotten to mention, as most of my pictures were taken when I bought the car. There are an old small corner L-shaped crack about 5 inches long at an angle from the bottom to about two and a half inches from the bottom left side of the windshield on the driver's bottom left corner and a small round chip (about 2/3 the size of a dime) about one and one-fourth inch from the bottom in the driver's bottom corner of the windshield below the wiper blade. I believe that both are well below the area that would give most state inspectors a problem. Give me your email and I will send you a picture. I have another windshield that I could remove from another Sprite if this is a deal killer, and I would keep the one with these small flaws, but my preference would be for you to simply factor this into your bid rather than go disturbing two windshields with the possible attendant consequences to both donor and recipient. Also, one of the new tires was not seating well on one of the Rostyle blue wheels, so it is now on the car on the spare white Rostyle wheel. I have put the four chrome wheel rims and two grilles in the trunk. Again, I can email you a picture if you give me your email address. Thanks, Hugh (540) 887-2597 hughleavell@yahoo.comOn Apr-23-11 at 15:46:03 PDT, seller added the following information: I just found a white tonneau cover in good condition that I will include with the Bugeye.
