Vehicle Detail
Up for grabs ia a nice solid 1966 Chevelle El Camino. The undercarriage is solid from front to back. Frame is in excellent shape with no rot anywhere including the crossmember over the rear end. All wheel wells are solid and so are the rocker panels. There is some rot in the typical places - lower section of the rear quarter (front ahead of the rear end), bottom of the front fenders and the floor pans behind the seat have some small holes coming through but thats about it. I know that patch panels for these sections are readily available. The back bed is solid as well showing only some surface rust. There was some rot under the rear window and to put it bluntly - they hacked it. I pulled some of the bondo they put on as a "repair" off and found only a small amount of rust. Knuckleheads to say the least. The rest of the body is solid solid solid. Although it looks like crap, under those coats of paint and surface rust lies a nice solid El Camino. The original model was a El Camino Custom (not a deluxe or standard model). The brakes, lines and power brake cylinder have been replaced if you get the urge to drive the car the way it is now - which you could easily do. The power steering and brakes work great and the front end was given a going over to make it roadworthy. I was told the original 327 has been replaced with a 4 bolt main 350 and a 400 Turbo Hydro out of a 1970 Camaro (air cleaner shows it as a 350 - 270 horse), I tried to get the casting number and it appears to be what I was told but as I could not clearly see all the digits I cant confirm for sure. The rear end is a 3:73 posi. The car has ralley wheels and could use new tires. The original color was Butternut Yellow with a white interior. Chrome is in pretty good shape but will need new bumpers. The El Camino has dual exhaust, sounds great, doesnt smoke (allegedly 40K on the motor) and runs, shifts and stops as it should. If your looking for a nice solid platform to build a nice El Camino then look no further. Mechanically in great shape and showing only 46,998 on it's unmolesed speedometer. One more thing - I do have the original hood that goes with the car. I don't know why they put that big block monstrosity on there!
