Up for sale is a 2008 Toyota Prius PHEV. This top of the line fully optioned Prius HEV has the Hymotion L5 Plug-In Conversion Module (PCM) option making it a Plug-in Hybrid Electric vehicle (PHEV) capable of over 100mpg (see below). The PCM was installed at a Hymotion authorized Toyota dealership. The vehicle has always been dealer maintained by its owner. Last service on April 08, 2011 included all factory service advisories and 25,000 mile service. Pictures are of actual vehicle for sale. What is a L5 PCM? Here’s some information from the manufacturer A123Systems Hymotion’s website: The L5 PCM is a supplemental lithium ion battery that is installed in the spare tire well of a Toyota Prius. The L5 PCM provides approximately 5 kilowatt hours (kWh) of onboard electrical storage capacity. This additional electrical energy enables the Prius to use pure electric drive more often and for longer distances, resulting in fuel efficiency gains and CO2 emissions reduction over the standard Prius. The L5 PCM must be recharged from a 15AMP 120VAC electrical outlet or extension cord equipped with GFCI. The L5 PCM does not receive any regenerative charge during driving. When the L5 PCM is charged, the Prius is capable of achieving fuel economy in excess of 100 miles per gallon (mpg) and reducing CO2 emissions by up to 2/3rds over the standard Prius. The L5 PCM can provide electrical assistance for approximately 30 to 40 miles of driving on a single charge before becoming depleted. Once the L5 PCM's charge has been depleted, the vehicle's operation and fuel economy reverts to that of a regular Prius until the L5 PCM is recharged by plugging in. Unlike some PHEVs that require a 40 or 50Amp 220VAC circuit and special pedestal or wall mounted charger that must be installed by an electrician, the Hymotion PCM system has NO external charging station required. All you need is a standard UL approved 12/3 AWG or 14/3 AWG outdoor rated extension cord and a 15AMP or higher rated GFCI outlet. You can even charge it at work, if your boss lets you and/or you are the boss, and then you’ll be getting even bigger cost savings on your investment. The weather proof plug-in receptacle is located on the driver’s side rear bumper. Safety features built into the system prevent you from driving off with the vehicle plugged in so you don’t have to worry about doing that by mistake. If your daily commute is less than 40 miles roundtrip you could reduce your annual fuel usage by up to 60% and you will also be reducing your output of greenhouse gases, carbon footprint and dependency on foreign & domestic oil. Imagine only buying 9 tanks of gasoline a year vs. 20 and paying 40 cents for the electricity for your daily commute. Pricing and savings will all depend on how you drive, road conditions, costs of gasoline, the price you pay for kwh usage and when you charge the vehicle. Charging during off peak hours increases the savings and a typical charge cycle is 3 to 5 hours depending on how depleted the L5 module is. There is a ton of information out there on PHEVs and online savings calculators as well but they all still say the same thing – PHEVs can save you $$ and make the world a cleaner place. Toyota sold five trim levels/option packages in 2008; Package Two was the Basic lowest level available and Package Six was the highest and has the most options. The 2011 Prius changed option pricing slightly and only has Packages One through Five. This 2008 Prius has the Package Six options plus the A123Systems Hymotion PCM. Toyota is expected to release a factory PHEV option in 2012 and the street estimated MSRP is $42,000 less any government rebates or additional options. VEHICLE CONDITION & SERVICE I am selling this vehicle for a good friend of mine. This is an One owner vehicle purchased new in July 2008 by his brother and it was kept in the family by the current owner. The Prius has always been garage kept, and is currently driven, registered and insured in New Jersey. The NJ State inspection is good until July 2013. It is the regular 4 year new car inspection plus the one year extension NJ recently enacted on all 2006 and newer vehicles to stop wasting our tax money. All scheduled maintenance was regularly done by a local Toyota dealership and I do have the paperwork to prove it. Also the original Toyota & A123Systems/Hymotion owner’s manuals and books are included with the sale. This accident-free vehicle is also current on any recalls or factory recommended service as of April 09, 2011. There are no known issues with this vehicle and it just got a clean bill of health at the local Toyota dealership last Friday. Garage kept and in great condition inside and out. Always Nonsmoker owned & operated. Interior condition: Excellent! To great No rips or tears in the seats or trim, Factory original carpets are clean and in great shape. All interior lights (including instrument panel and console lights) are in great working condition. This vehicle is currently owned by a dog owner so if you have pet allergies we are letting you know upfront that the owner’s medium sized dog has ridden in this vehicle a few times and we will make every effort to deliver a clean and vacuumed vehicle but we cannot guarantee a 100% pet dander free vehicle. I didn’t find any evidence of damage from a dog being in the car on the seats or carpeting. Just a few nose prints on one of the side windows which came off with some glass cleaner. On a good note, the dog is well behaved and a hypoallergenic breed that does not shed. Exterior condition: Excellent to great shape for a three year old vehicle. This is a better than daily driver that is in a less than perfect world and as such it has some imperfections as you would expect from a typical used car. The windshield is clear with no chips or cracks. All the headlights and other lighting are in great working condition and all options, buttons, and features work. The Toyota 6 disc CD/AM/FM radio has satellite radio capability and sounds great with its 9 speaker set-up. The Cruise Control, Navigation, Bluetooth, and MP3 options all work great too. All the glass has Vin-Gard NICB (National Insurance Crime Bureau) laser etching which in some states (FL & NY and others) can reduce your insurance deductible and helps prevent VIN switching or other scams. This is NOT a Brand New Showroom or reconditioned vehicle. It is a great unique used vehicle with low mileage and a way for you to be environmentally conscience and do your part to reduce America’s dependency for foreign & domestic oil. All body panels, trim, etc. are Toyota original except the added Hymotion system parts. The body panels are straight but there are a few minor parking lot dings and scratches as with any used vehicle. The biggest ding can be seen in the pictures and also one small dent on the lower rocker panel which is typical for Toyotas for some strange reason but it doesn’t have any broken paint and is often overlooked because it is so low on the car. Service is up to date. Only regular scheduled maintenance items like oil & filter changes have been done. The twenty five thousand mile maintenance has been taken care of at the dealer and no issues were found. Tires are original and have plenty of miles left and the brakes stop as they should. 2 Key/remotes, Spare tire and all original tools / jack included. Factory powertrain warranty is 5 years/ 60,000 miles, Hybrid and Traction battery (Toyota only not Hymotion) is 8 years/ 100, 000 miles & the corrosion perforation warranty is 5 years / unlimited miles.
