Vehicle Detail

This is a restorable Galaxie Convt. I have been wanting to build a replica of the car I drove to High school. A 62 Galaxie 406 tri power 4speed car. So in my many search's for 62s I ran across this one advertised in Hemmings. After speeking serveral times with the owner. He had told me he was a "car guy" and the photo's he had sent to me allowed a peak in the background of his garage where several very nice collector cars were parked. Well don,t beleave everything you are told. There's a BIG difference between a car guy and a car collector. You don't have to know anything about cars to be a car collector. just a checkbook. Collecting cars requires very little knowledge of cars. Real "CAR GUYS" are usually pretty honest with each other. Car collectors don't seem to have the same code. Now don't get me wrong. There are lots of car collectors that are very good car guys also. Just in this case that was "not" the fact. I was told that this car had very minimal if ANY rust. Well that just wasn't tue. I was told that he thought it might even still have the factory paint on it. Well that just wasn't true. Unless they were painting them with a roller anyway. I was told that the floor pans looked to be nearly rust free. Well that just wasn't true. I was told a lot of things about this car that just were not true. Now I AM a " CAR GUY". I will tell you the real story about this car. If you want to restore a 62 and make your self a nice driver. This car can surely be restored. As far as rust, Yep there's rust. There's nothing that can't be fixed. I'm an old body man and I could fix it easy enough., It's just that I want to build a 100 piont car. So I need perfect floor and trunk pans. The front and doors seem do seem to be very sollid. The trunk floor is pretty well shot. The interior floor pan is about average. I know a lot of guys that would patch this one up and it would be fine. The rear quarters are both been fixed at the bottom. someone has bondo'ed and fiberglassed them back to appear to be original. But trust the truth is they are not. The lower mldg you see in the photo's is just stick on crome tape. It is a 390 car and somewere in history someone has put a stick in it. I assume it's a 3speed. Never looked under it. The guy that sold me this drove into my trailer. I should have left it there. BUT I'm one of the old guys that still values his word. I had told this idiot I would take the car. After I drove 1500 miles to pick it up. I wasn't going to go back on my word. I only pray that carma will make things right. How,s that bad knee of your,s feeling Gary ?? Seriously if you want to build a 62 this is all there. I just don't want any patch panels or rust in mine. I plan on putting a pretty big chunk of money into my 406 project and I just don't care to start with any rust. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. The pictures show it as it is. It has sat next to my garage for over a year now. Yesterday was the first time I have touched it since I pushed it back there. Pulled it out yesterday for pictures. I can help to trailer it to you if you want to pay expences. Or we can start it and drive it on to your trailer. I need to move this out from next to my garage. I'm purring concrete there in a couple of weeks for an addition and I need the space. I have lowered the reserve on this car to sell it., If you want a 62 this could make a nice car. Oh yeh there is a new convt top with rear window that goes with it. It's white and was in the car when I bought it.
