Vehicle Detail
This is our 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible, it's in beautiful condition and has spent over a year in restoration. There is a very extensive parts and labor list invested into this car. 400 + Horsepower 4 speed manual trans!!!!! When I started out to find a car to rebuild I was looking for an unmolested & very clean car to start with and finally found it in CT and the man that owned the car was an executive that had purchased the car from the original owner, 15 year prior. The original color was Butternut Yellow with a hockey stick stripe. What made me want to restore this car was that it had all it's original quarters, floors, trunk and was a totally rust free car. There wasn't a patch repaired previously, it was a solid and rust free car with a 4 speed and a low HP V8. This was the right car for the restoration, it could have taken 10 more years to find a similar car as clean as this to start with. Parts were ordered right away and work started with a 4 wheel disc brake conversion. Then a power booster, GM proportioning valve and all stainless steel brake lines. and a stainless steel e brake cable. And of course the New 17" American Racing Torq Thrust 2 Wheels and Tires with polished lug nuts. Then I went with the new model Hooker Ceramic coated headers and a Magnaflow dual exhaust, then a complete front end re-build kit including all steering components, ball joints, all control arm bushings, inner & outer tie rod ends, a rebuilt steering box and a rebuilt steering pump and all new frame bushings were added. No expense was spared here. ENGINE: The low HP V8 was removed and a larger engine was built by a professional engine builder to be built (Kellers Machine in Salisbury Mills). And the one prerequisite was that it had to make above 400 HP. So the engine builder set out to make me a great engine. And he used 010 High Nickle Cast Block and bored it .030 over, of course this block had 4 bolt main caps, he spec'd a speedpro cam for a nice rumble, but it's still VERY drivable. The engine rebuild has everything that you could or would want, new pistons, rings, new freeze plugs cam bearings, new rod & main bearings, a brand new set of Pro Comp Aluminium heads topped it off with 202 valves, roller rockers, and an Edlebrock Performer Air Gap intake wih a new Holley 670 Carb with electric choke & a Holley air cleaner. The ignition system was also upgraded to a new HEI distributor with all new plugs, wires, temp sensor and a new Hitachi mini starter, high torque with a smaller size. It runs absolutely flawlessly. The car has such a nice healthy throaty rumble, not at all obnoxious. Just music to car lovers ears :-) Transmission The car has a Muncie M20 4 Speed Transmission, this was completely disassembled & rebuilt with all new bearings, seals, gaskets, small parts kit, all new synchronizers & tail shaft bushings. Also installed a new LUK clutch assembly with a new throw out bearing & imput shaft bushing. we also installed new universal joints & balanced the driveshaft. . The Body: Original Floors, Rockers, Trunk floor Clean & rust free, A new fuel tank was installed with a new one piece stainless steel fuel line, a new pick up and sending unit was installed as well. When the car went to the body shop the first thing that was done was the car was completely disassembled and the entire nose was removed as was the deck-lid and the doors. Although the doors looked perfect the starting of rust was found so new Goodmark doors were put on as well as a Goodmark spoiler and a pair of front and rear bumpers. The remainder of the car was stripped down to bare metal and was just clean and nice as it was the day it came out of the factory. It spend 4 months at the body shop alone. The silver used on the 2011 Camaro's was the same color we used because it looked close to the Cortez Silver of the day, but it had more metallic flake in it and looked nicer on this car and brighter, as you can see coupled with the black ralley stripes. After all of the two tone was done then the clear coat was applied so you'd never notice anything or feel anything it's perfectly smooth. The person the did the bodywork was an old school guy that took his time and did it right, everything is perfect. It was hand sanded over a half dozen times before the applications of primer, paints and clears. The paint used was the most expensive and the best. The finish is like GLASS. People really respond to this car at shows and whenever it's out, they comment on how great the paint looks. FRAME: With the larger engine it was a good idea to install a set of frame connectors. And Global West just came out with a new tubular set that was specifically designed to fit the 1969 Camaro Convertible. And they fit perfectly. The car goes straight as an arrow and feels great under power. . The Differential: This is the GM 8.2" factory differential, It was completely rebuilt with a new 3.73 gearset, a new posi unit, all new bearings, seals, & small parts necessary, the rear brake system was also upgraded to discs ( car stops on a dime) The Interior: A complete interior kit was ordered and installedt including, new carpet, new seat cushions, new seat covers, new door panels, & rear side covers, a new convertible top. It's a manual top, new pillar post covers, a new dash pad, new window crank handles, all new window felts and inner and outer, all new rubber seals for the doors, windows, convertible top, trunk and under the hood. new rockers (body by fisher) stainless as well. The complete interior kit is Goodmark & Poy. Under the hood: Also installed a new heater core, a new Fan motor, a rebuilt steering pump & steering box. There are going to be a lot of things that may have been forgotten, but the main things were put down. To mention the bad as well, there are some final adjustments that need to be made to the windows and the speedometer, but other than that, it runs GREAT.
