Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1957 Ford Skyliner with retractable hardtop. One of the greatest and uniquest automotive designs ever. Everyone who sees one of these tops go up and down is in awe when they see the action. I've had four and I still smile everytime I see it. This is a NO RESERVE Auction. This time I have a Skyliner that someone started the restoration a while ago, and never finished. Lots of the stuff is done, but it still needs some work. But it comes with lots of good stuff. Please read my description. Engine runs, trans shifts, brakes work. The front end has new parts, and the brakes have been redone....but I would not say it's road worthy yet. It has been in storage for quite a few years so it runs from an "outside" gas tank. I recommend flushing the gas tank before using it. Engine is a 272 with an automatic. The exhaust pipes are good. The car has had some body work done and a quick paint job. As a matter of fact the body doesn't show any cancer. But there is rust in the trunk, inside rockers and behind the quarterpanel in the back. It could still use some detailing in the body work to get it ready for paint. I do not think the car was painted black be black, but was painted quickly to protect the body. The car was originally Red and White (great color combo). You can see the red/white it in the jams, trunk and under hood. The trim tag verifies it true color. The floors have been repaired but it could use a little detailing in the finish. As I mentioned, there are some spots in the trunk that need work. It will need a body mount replaced. The car doesn't show any signs of an accident and the frame is straight. There is a metal patch on the driverside frame. Now the good stuff. The car comes with a new red/white interior. The seats have been redone with the correct seat covers. It includes brand new door panels (front and back). The rear armrests are already coverd. It has a new red carpet, and it has a new headliner that needs to be installed. Also includes many extra interior trim pieces, more than you will need. Pick the best ones and sell the rest. The new interior pieces are worth $1800 alone. The front bumper and bumperets (bullets) have been rechromed. The grill also has been rechromed. The rear bumper was also done, but it's not as nice as the front bumper. The rear bumper has been installed for a few years, and the front bumper was in its wrapper so it is new. All the extrior trim looks good. There is a box of clips to reinstall them. If you notice something missing in the pictures, it most likely comes with the car, it's just not installed. Also the car has an excellent hood ornament, and some new reproduction emblems. The car comes with extra rear windows with very nice frames. The top does not work. Some of the motors and switches have been disconnected during it's restoration. It comes with many extra motors and switches. At some point a turquose retractable was pillaged for parts. There are many extra turquose interior parts from a retractable. I assume the extra motors and switches came from that car. The interior and chrome alone are good for $2,500. The car runs and the car moves. It is located in the Phildadelphia burbs. (North Wales PA) Take a look at the pictures. Email me questions or your phone number for more info. I have many pictures showing all the parts. Or stop by and take a look if you are local. International bidders are welcome, and I can help get the car to port. Please ask questions. And remember, NO RESERVE. This car is listed in other places for sale, so this auction can be ended early. On Apr-04-11 at 08:28:20 PDT, seller added the following information: Auction is coming to a close...Remember only 892 Skyliners were built in 1957. This one might be the least expesive running car out there. I'm adding some additional information to answer questions and comments I got. (There are over 100 'watchers' of this listing). I have additional pictures to go with these comments, but I'm maxed out with 24 pictures in the original listing, and I cann't add any more. But if you ask, I will send them. Trim tag info: Body: 51 (skyliner) Color: VE3 (Flame red and Colonial white) Date: 03G (3rd or July) Trans: 3 (Fordomatic) Axle: 3.56 ratio I have "Thunderbird" valve covers for the car also. On Apr-04-11 at 08:33:32 PDT, seller added the following information: Please ignore the 892 production number. (I don't know how that mistake was made). They built 20,766 of these! But this could still be the cheapest running Skyliner out there.
