This is a 1979 VW Super Beetle Convertable that I originally purchased for my grandaughters 16th Birthday present. The vehicle is a No Rust, no prior collision damage California vehicle, it had just shy of 24,000 miles when I purchased it. Being a suitable base I began to "fix" it for my grandaughter. Now that it is finished she has decided her plans have changed and this vehicle no longer "fits" her future plans. The car was stripped of all trim, interior removed, top removed, all glass, body rubber, fender welt, and engine & drive train removed. Starting with the floor boards were inspected with no rust found even under the battery was sound. I then painted the floor boards with POR 15 to prevent any future rust. The original engine was totally rebuilt with new cylinders, pistons and rings, and new dual port heads and valves, all new fuel injectors. The transmission was rebuilt with all new bearings, syncros and any gearing that was worn. All engine sheet metal was bead blasted and powder coated. Before the engine trans were reinstalled, all rear bearings and actuator cables were replaced, as well as all CV joints cleaned repacked and new boots installed. Both the engine and trans were rebuilt by a German trained VW master mechanic. The braking system was flushed with new master cylinder replaced and all 4 wheels converted to Disc brakes. The body asm was block sanded and re painted with 2 stage, base coat, clear coat high end paint. All new trim was installed along with all new weather stripping, fender bead and running boards. New convertable top and all new interior upholstry installed. I have driven the vehicle approximately 350 miles doing engine break in and checking for any problems. Only one was found, the only cable not replace was the throttle cable, guess what, it broke at approximately 300 miles, so now it has been replaced also! Both the wheels and tires are brand new (radials) and I had the centers on the wheels powder coated gold and then clear coat. I did not replace the bumpers as they were in very good shape and the repros are of far less quality. I also did not replace the radio as I felt my granddaughter did not need the distraction of the radio. And figured that after she became an accomplished driver a good Christas gift would be a new radio. So now whoever buys it can have their pick of the radio they choose. As stated the intention of the rebuild was to provide my granddaughter as trouble free vehicle that I could provide for her with me living 300 miles away without worry. I have reciepts for over $16,500 dollars, not including my labor. Treated properly this vehicle should provide many years of fun and trouble free transportation.
