Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE 1966 Corvair Monza Convertible, 140 HP, automatic trans., 63,680 miles This Corvair is in very good condition. I bought the car in 1984 at a Kruse auction near Chicago. The title indicated that it came from Tennessee. I drove it quite a bit the first few years I had it, but not very much since then. It has spent most of the last 25 years sitting in the garage. The body is in excellent condition with no dents. It has a few very minor dings and flaws that aren’t apparent until you look carefully. There is some unevenness in color around the gas filler that is visible in the right light. The car was repainted sometime in its past. A close look at at some spots reveals a finish that is less than perfect, but it still looks great from a few feet away. There are almost no signs of rust. The driver’s side rocker panel has a few small bubbles in the paint and a little rust underneath. The undercarriage looks good except for a little surface rust, and there is a little rust in the engine compartment near the battery. The chrome is in very good condition. The convertible top is original and is in fair shape with some scuff marks on the edges. The back window is broken. The padded dash has two large cracks, and there is a little rust at the front of the dash on the driver’s side due to a leak around the windshield. The boot for the top has a tear in the center. I just replaced the fuel tank and sending unit. I had the brake shoes, master cylinder, and a wheel cylinder replaced and had a complete tune-up not too many miles ago. The engine is 140 HP with 4 carbs. I had the two primary carbs rebuilt not long ago. I also had a rebuilt starter installed recently. The tires don’t have many miles on them, but they are old. The engine runs fairly well but not perfectly at idle. A vacuum gauge on it shows flutter, which I am told could mean a sticky valve. It does not leak oil at all. The automatic transmission seems to work perfectly – I’ve never had any problems with it. This car looks good as is and could be perfect with not too much work. I also have a ’73 Corvette (not for sale), but this Corvair gets me more compliments. It’s a real head turner.
