Vehicle Detail
This is a complete (minus the stainless belt on passenger door) car that runs and drives and because it is an automatic it is very rare. For those who would be interested in restoring it there are many saleable features. It has the original paint, there are no areas where rust has eaten through the metal (several places where there is surface rust), on the body and underneath. The painted portion of the dash with the knobs and bezels looks like brand new. It is in unbelievable unrestored condition. The trunk and door jambs are in the same kind of condition in regards to the paint The door panels as well as the panels in the rear are in brand new condition and all of the knobs and handles are immaculate as well. All of the glass is perfect. The windshield doesn't even show wiper marks. The wheels have already been restored/repainted and come with older tires that still have the nubs on them. It has four new shocks. The antenna and door handles are all in excellent shape. Both front and rear bumpers are in good shape but have minor dings. The headliner is beautiful with no rips or stains. The car comes with new seat covers for both front seats as well as new seat foam that matches the interior (black). The carpet will clean up to like new condition. It is not frayed or torn. This is an easy restoration. The bad: The motor runs fine but blows blue smoke and is in need of a rebuild. It is the 1600 with fuel injection. It has brand new plugs, we just changed the oil and cleaned the filter, it has a new rotor and distributor cap as well. The transmission works in all forward gears like normal but doesn't work in reverse. With much difficulty, due to the rarity of automatics, we found a rebuild kit for the transmission as well as a shop manual that will walk you through the process. This comes from a company that has been selling and rebuilding transmissions for VW's for 30 years. I was told that for rebuilding the automatic you only needed regular mechanics tools and it was not that difficult. My mechanic pulled the pan off the transmission to check and see if something may have been clogging the valve body and though he has never rebuilt an automatic he said that it looked pretty straight forward. I mention all of this because when you call around to VW aftermarket places you won't find many, if any, who sell parts, etc., for automatics. The kit to rebuild the transmission is $200.00 and the manual is $36.00. They have it in stock. This vehicle is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. If the price is right you may end this auction with a reasonable offer. Call me at (719) 650-8911. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. I will do everything within my power and within the confines of reason to accommodate you in that regard. I have one negative feedback given by someone who refused to pay for the vehicle as we had discussed. They left negative feedback after backing out of the transaction and I could not, per ebay's pro buyer rules, get it removed even though I had emails that showed the buyer backed out of the transaction. Google that matter and you will be surprised at how many ebay sellers are quite frustrated by ebay in that regard. There is an immediate non-refundable deposit of $500.00 required via paypal. Call me about how to pay the balance. Anyway, bid with confidence and feel free to call me with questions or to get further information. Good luck!On Mar-13-11 at 19:55:52 PDT, seller added the following information: Someone called and made a low ball offer who restores these vehicles regularly and he assured me that my car would have penetrating rust and he directed me to the spot, inside the front end spare tire space, below the rubber boot which houses the bumper shock, and he was correct. There is a small hole. It's so strange because one cannot see it from above and that area looks like new, even the rubber bumper boot looks new, but there was the hole. Nevertheless, it is an easy repair. All other rust is simply surface blisters with no holes.
