Vehicle Detail

1972 Buick Skylark I had found this car scouring dead ends and cul de sacs at the tippy top of the hills surrounding my town. It was raining that day so I decided not to leave a note. To my surprise it turned up for sale in the local want ads and I leapt at the chance to pick it up. I met a gentleman early on a Sunday morning and we made a deal in about 15 minutes. He was selling the car for his girlfriend. The Skylark had received plenty of TLC and had an easy life with a woman owner. She had been using it to climb the steep hills from town and I knew it was a runner. After making the purchase I proceeded to drive it around town and back up the mountain and to the side of the sea, and back up the mountain to the sunset and on the freeway to home. I hit 80 mph and giggled to myself in glee. This was one of my best purchases. The man I bought it from told me it needed a top but the whole car was in such good shape I never even looked. This car has great giddy up and go, it’s a real blast to drive. It’s kind of like cruising on a big couch. It sucks up the bumps like a champ. I haven’t tried using the A/C yet, but at least it’s there. The car has had no real work done to it except someone painted it daisy yellow over the original root beer brown. Bad move. I mean the paint job is okay, but I would way rather have it the original way. It would really show off the brown interior. The body has some rust bubbling through but nothing that a decent body guy can’t work with. I’ve been driving the Skylark around for a month now and it never fails to start, stop and steer. The carb needs a rebuild, they told me. The power steering belt squeals. One of the hub caps has loose spokes. The driver’s side door handle is a little loose. The little dividers in between the windows are in the trunk. There’s a ding on the driver’s door. There is a small scrape over the passenger’s side rear wheel. Just little things to deal with here and there… What I have here for you is a running, driving convertible that won’t run your bank account into the ground. If you want to have a fun summer and drive your friend’s around, come on over to sunny California and pick yourself up a Buick (or I can easily have it shipped to you anywhere on the globe). Thanks, Harris
