Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 My timing isn’t always so great. I bought this car 3 years ago to have an economical “run around” car that had enough seats for the wife, grandkids and a couple of dogs. The third seat gave us enough room for everyone and it made a nice car for the purposes I had in mind. But, due to a deteriorating health problem, I had to park the car not long after buying it and it doesn’t look like I’ll be needing it again. (The odometer currently reads 119,130 miles; it read 118,309 when I bought it. In other words, I didn’t get to drive it even 1,000 miles before I had to give up on driving!) My wife is a “truck” person and she owns a large F350 diesel crew cab with dual rear wheels and all that. It’s a great truck but it’s not exactly the most fuel-efficient vehicle for around town use. So she decided she would put on new tires a month or so ago ($300) and fix anything else that needed work because the car had sat up so long. After putting on the new tires, she took it on a brief drive and discovered a couple of other possible problems. Frankly, although my wife is very mechanically inclined, neither one of us is a professional mechanic so what follows are our honest “best-guesses”. Cons: There is an oil leak around the front seal. Before the car was parked, there was no oil leak at all.The engine surges on acceleration. It did not surge when I was still driving it regularly. The front brakes may need repair. On braking, the front end shimmies. The previous owner removed the radio and I never got around to replacing it, so you’ll either have to hum to yourself or install an entertainment system of your own choosing. There are a few very minor dings in the body. (No rust-through or body-rot, though.)There are a couple of small tears in the upholstery. We suspect that there may be a vacuum leak somewhere in the system. (The door locks work but very slowly, for instance.) Pros: The car cranks easily and the engine sounds good at idle. When parked, the transmission was perfect. We believe it still is but the engine surge makes it impossible for us to say for sure. The tires are brand new, with less than 20 miles on them.Air conditioning works great. The sunroof functions perfectly.Even with the minor body dings, the car still looks good from 15 feet away. The black exterior and tan interior go together great. Photos: I have posted a large number of photos. IMPORTANT — PLEASE NOTE: we were having thunderstorms when I went out to take pictures. Since I could not take any, I have uploaded photos of the car when I bought it. Except for needing a wax job, the car looks like it did the day I bought it. TO REEMPHASIZE: these photos are from about 3 years ago. If you want current photos, please let me know and I can email them to you. Just send me your email address via the eBay “Ask A Question” and I’ll send current photos as soon as I can take them. Summation: I really don’t know what to say. The needed repairs may be very minor, especially for someone who knows their way around a Mercedes-Benz. Then again, it has been sitting unused and that cannot be good for it. I would love to repair and keep it, but the truth is that my health (and high medical bills) precludes doing so. I do not know if the odometer is correct but I do know it is over 100k. It is sold as “True Miles Unknown”. I know I could part it out and make more money on it because there are so many good parts on it, but I’d rather sell it all in one transaction and be done with it. There are so many good parts that it would at the very least make you a great parts car, if you have a similar one that needs restoration. If you are in the middle Georgia area, I encourage you to personally inspect the car. If not, I encourage you to have a third-party professional inspect it. In any event, the car is sold “AS IS/WHERE IS”, with no warranty expressed or implied. It has a clear Georgia title which will be conveyed upon completion of payment. If you purchase it and cannot pick it up yourself, I will be glad to work with whomever you select to pick it up and deliver it to you. (All shipping/delivery charges are the buyer’s responsibility. On Mar-02-11 at 14:50:26 PST, seller added the following information: UPDATES: In an effort to answer some of the many questions I've received, here is some more information about the car.The battery (Interstate) is new, as are the spark plugs.New tires are Mastercraft MC440 (made by Cooper)The only rust on the car is a small area of surface rust below one of windows in the rear.According to a couple of emails I received, the surge I mentioned MAY indicate the fuel pump needs repair/replacement. Or it may be as simple as replacing the fuel filter. Bottom line: I don't know the cause. All power windows work.Power seats work.I said that the interior is tan, but it is actually grey.Power sunroof works. The owner's manual and other documentation is in the car. Someone apparently walked into the passenger side rear view mirror and knocked it a bit loose. The paint on it is undamaged but the mirror needs to be remounted in order to work properly.Additional photos were taken today (March 2, 2011). If you would like them, please send me your email address via eBay's "Ask a Question". Please let me know if you have any additional questions and I'll try to address them.
