Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a 1990 Volkswagon Westfalia Camper with 94000 miles. It is mostly original and in good shape as you can see by the pictures. My father was the original owner in So Cal and he gave it to me after traveling the National Parks for a few years. My wife and I have traveled around the country since then with no troubles and many fond memories. Now it is someone else’s turn. Of course there is some wear and tear, but upholstery and interior are good condition and the canvas in the pop-top is good too. I have recently had the power steering rack replaced and a new compressor for the AC which works most of the time. There is a slow leak in the AC and it needs recharged periodically. It has been converted to refrigerant 134 so this can be done at home. There are a few nicks and scratches. The most noticable is around the right rear wheel (see picture) – caused by turning to quickly (short wheel base) – it scrapped my pick-up truck tail gate. Tires are almost new. Electric windows and mirrors work but the electric door locks do not. Also there is an issue with the accessory circuit which I have disconnected because it caused a slow drain on the battery. I have installed a new radio and wired it directly to the ignition so I could use it without worry and I rely on LED lights for interior illumination. This works well. The stove, refrigerator and water system have not been used for some time, but as far as I know they are in working order. The engine is original and runs fine as does the auto transmission. You can reach me on my cell phone at 706-255-3016 with any questions you might have or if you would like to arrange a time to come and see the van for yourself. I live near Athens, Georgia. I will require a $1000.00 cash deposit through Paypal within 48 hours of auctions end and full payment is expected with 7 days. The van may be picked up later if arrangments are agreed upon. Good luck and happy bidding! On Mar-03-11 at 10:07:58 PST, seller added the following information: For more information about these wonderful campers and the large community of westy enthusiasts visit: www.gowesty.com or the eBay review "Buying a late model Vanagon Westfalia" at: http://reviews.ebay.com/Buying-a-late-model-Vanagon-Westfalia_On Mar-03-11 at 06:19:17 PST, seller added the following information: Sorry, The full link is : http://reviews.ebay.com/Buying-a-late-model-Vanagon-Westfalia_W0QQugidZ10000000002526616On Mar-05-11 at 15:34:15 PST, seller added the following information: In answer to some questions, the van has only lived in SoCal and Georgia, so, no harsh snow or salt - no rust, except a little where the damage around the rear wheel is. It was undercoated when new. I've charged the propane and lit the stove-works fine. Also filled the water and ran the faucet - seems to work fine. Fridge doesn't seem to be getting cold, but I haven't run it through the paces. We usually use it as a pantry. I've add pictures of stove, fridge, faucet, engine, tire, etc. Hope this provides some answers. Let me know if you have more questions. On Mar-06-11 at 05:44:59 PST, seller added the following information: In response to Q: The camper was undercoated when purchased and has never lived in the rust belt. Only SoCal and Georgia. The only rust is around the dent around the wheelwell (pictured). No dents or scrapes around the hookups. Only other dent is a small one above the left tail light. No coolant or trans leaks are evident. Coolant tank was replaced not long ago and system flushed. Some wet oil on bottom of crankcase indicates small leak. Valve covers are dry, no leak. Inspection/tune-up last march revealed only one problem, the power steering rack was leaking and I had it replaced with a rebuilt unit before traveling around Florida for a week of fun with no problems. I think you'll be happy with this camper.
