The original 2.2 liter engine is still fitted with the original twin SU side draft carburetors and is 100% factory stock. Fires right up and settles into the correct idle with a deep exhaust note. Runs perfectly on pump gas and there are no mechanical issues; no smoke, no leaks, no noises. Pulls nicely through the rev range and is surprisingly quick with an abundance of torque and instantaneous throttle response. The 4-speed manual transmission shifts perfectly. The Brand new black leather interior with White piping fits like like a glove and feels wonderful. Not only all new seat covers but new seat foams as well. new full carpet throughout. Original walnut wood dash has been refinished to exacting factory standards. All factory Lucas gauges (120 mph speedometer, 6000 RPM tachometer, Oil Pressure, Water Temperature, Ammeter, Fuel Level), and all work properly. Factory AM radio (plays), Up-grade Sirius Radio (working), Factory Banjo steering wheel in excellent condition. Excellent original dash pad with no cracks and no warping. Perfect all steel body with no dents, no dings, no waves. The underside is in excellent condition and there are no rust issues. Very nice paint in factory Signal Red; no nicks, no chips. Excellent chrome bumpers front and rear. Excellent bright-work and polished trim. Factory side marker lights. Excellent front grille and chrome rear tail light bezels. Excellent glass and all windows operate smoothly; Very nice black convertible top plus a black tonneau cover and top hood cover. Excellent factory disc wheels (with the factory chrome hubcaps) fitted with brand new P165-80-15 radials. Goes straight down the road with no shake, no squeaks, and runs & drives perfectly.The live rear axle option is rare on a TR4a. Triumph introduced Independent Rear Suspension (I.R.S as seen on most TR4a) for the TR4a however US dealers where not sold on it, so Triumph reworked the rear suspension to fit the live rear axle. The live rear axle is a US only option. Estimates have the Live Rear Axle option only being delivered on about 25% of all US cars.
