Vehicle Detail
1976 Corvette Stingray Well this was supposed to be my project car that I was going to restore, needless to say a smaller budget, coupled with no place to store it, and I am currently writing my dissertation for my Ph.D. so I have ZERO time on my side. This car has been in my family for a very long time and has basically been sitting for the last 10+ years. I am now 34 and I used to get to drive it every now and then when I was in high school, yes I know the poor spoiled brat got to drive a Corvette to school. The car runs actually very well, I currently drive it back and forth to work to save money on my Truckzilla of a Diesel. I do not drive the car too far out of town because it sat for so long and it needs some work. Here is a list of what is new and what is great about the car. New Tires that have maybe 600 miles on them Brand New brakes all around, since it sat for so many years I had to replace them because the seals went bad. The brakes work great and nothing needs to be done with them whatsoever except for rebuilding the parking brake. A brand new Carburetor that needed to be replaced. I was going to rebuild the old one because it sat for so long it was gummed up. If you win the auction you can have the thing, rebuild it if you want and re-sell it, please just get it out of my garage. I have all the parts to redo the power steering. They are known to leak and after sitting for 10+ years this is no exception. I have not had the time to do it so I just keep putting more fluid in and cleaning my garage floor. J The parts were expensive and are all original. Amazing how much they can charge for some hoses, a shock looking thing, and the valve. I was going to convert it to a rack and pinion but the kit is like $1300.00 My dad replaced the rear end before it went into storage; it is now the proud owner of a 3.73 gear ratio which the 1976 model with all of its emission junk under the hood needed. The engine and transmission are VERY strong. They need nothing other than if I was keeping it I was going to pull the motor and paint it, and replace all the gaskets because it sat so long. Probably the main reason I don’t drive it too far out of town. It is all original, besides the very old stereo that is in there. Even the speakers are the original, and yes if you are wondering how speakers that are almost 35 years old sound after being in storage far that long they sound GREAT! Just kidding on that one. The U-Joints were done before it went into storage, yes they were a real Bi##ch to do. It drives as is, just needs some work. A very large portion of the Air Conditioning was replaced; it just needs to be converted to the new environmentally friendly stuff with the kit. Here is the bad about this old car The paint is faded and needs to be redone There are multiple places where it needs body work done to the fiberglass. Since it needs painting that isn’t too big a deal. GM and all their logic put the strangest Plastic type front and rear bumper covers on these things. As you can see in the pics they need to be replaced as well. Depending on what material you replace them with they are around $350.00 each. Again not that big a deal to replace especially since it needs to be painted. The Interior is actually really nice for a car this old and sat for so long. If I was keeping it I would get the seats redone. I would gave the inside a very strong 7 on a scale out of 10. My dad replaced the carpeting when he used to drive it a couple years before it went into storage. The radiator fan shroud is broken and currently held together. The gas gauge does not work, I am 99.9% sure it is a grounding issue but I wasn’t able to find where. I also didn’t try very hard. It just really needs someone who can put some time into the car, my family has had it for a long time and for the last decade it hasn’t gotten much use, well almost no use. Even with the paint the way it is I still get all kinds of looks with the car when I drive it around. Even if it needs some work it is still The Pride of the American automobile in a Corvette. As far as me as a seller, I am a 16 year veteran of the USAF and the government entrust me to operate a 200+ million dollar aircraft so I hope you can trust that I am open and honest about this car as can be. I am sure there are things about this car I have missed, good and bad, but the car is really good car and just needs some TLC. Unless you live within a 50 Miles radius of Altus Oklahoma the car will need to be tailored to your destination. Especially since I have not redid the power steering. A $500.00 deposit will be required within 48 hours of the auction closing. I am putting a very low reserve on this auction. I can tow it to you if you are within a 250 mile radius. This car has been in my family for the past 24 years give or take a few. I got it from my dad to work on but me receiving my Ph.D. is more important to me at this stage in my life than restoring a car. I actually enjoy working on cars when I have the time.On Feb-17-11 at 18:34:11 PST, seller added the following information: Very Close to the Reserve!!!!!!!!
