Vehicle Detail
Attention all muscle car fans and Ford motor heads. If you're looking for a winter or father-son project, this is it. Up for auction is a 1968 Mustang 2-door coupe. This is an original C-code designation and came equipped with a 289 V8. Vehicle currently has an inline 6cyl engine that was swapped back in the 70's, most likely due to the fuel crisis. Has correct 5-lug patten and V8 rear diff. Transmission is C4 automatic. Motor fires right up and runs strong. Car goes into gear and drives. This is an excellent builder vehicle and has already has some work done to it. Interior is complete and original with a rare and very desirable center console option. Even most of the lighting still works! VERY LOW RESERVE so don't miss out. Please call me if you have any questions at 631-871-3459 (Seth). CONDITION (I've attached videos of a full walk around of vehicle as well as the engine running) Exterior: Car is currently in gray primer. Vehicle was originally a dark green and most of the paint is still beneath the primer. Car is overall in solid shape. The roof NEVER had a vinyl top so it is NOT rotted or damaged as often happens. The trunk lid and hood are both solid with minimal rust (mostly just on the lip edge). The doors have some old body work/filler in them and may have some rot beneath that on the lower skins. The fenders look to be in good shape with no visible holes. They too have some old body filler but are very usable. The rear 1/4 panels are in better shape than most. I think at most you might need lower patch panels as there is some old body work that could be concealing some rust. The floors have been replaced with new aftermarket ones for the most part. Torque boxes and spring perches are good. BAD: The outer rear wheel wells have some rot holes as well as the tops of the inner fenders (see pic). The trunk floor is solid and intact with the exception of a small hole around the edge near the gas tank. Gas tank appears to have been replaced. Interior: Looks to be all original black vinyl. Needs restoration as it is 43 years old. Headliner is torn and falling. Seat frames are good and tilt forward and back. Radio does not power on. Some of the lighting does work. Horn works but is not super loud. Drivetrain: Car starts up and runs very strong. As you can see I have a gas can running right to the fuel pump. The gas tank was drained for storage so I just have this set up for demo purposes. Car will run off the main gas tank if filled. These inline 200ci 6cyl engines are practically indestructible so you could keep this one in for great fuel economy or transplant a V8 back in to make the car correct again. Transmission is a C4 and shifts into drive and reverse. Vehicle drives forward and back. I have not road tested this vehicle for any distance due to broken brake line(s). Car will move under its own power and was driven on and off a trailer and down the street a short distance. Wheels: Tires are in poor shape and at least one has a flat and leaks. Others will hold air for awhile. **Please keep in mind that this is a 43 year old vehicle and is being sold for parts or restoration. The description is only a general guideline of vehicle condition and may not represent any and every aspect or defect. Local buyers are encouraged and welcome to come down and inspect the car in person. Please contact me with any and all questions prior to bidding as all sales are final and all bids are binding.
