Vehicle Detail

There are over 100 photos so please look at them all before asking questions. One-owner 1970 Plymouth Barracuda. This car was bought new by my Grandmother and I inherited it after she passed away. My Mother and Aunt learned to drive in this car and it has a lot of sentimental value. It is a "Blue Fire", bucket seat, "slap-stick" console, wood steering wheel, "318" V-8 / automatic car with 89,000 original miles. Grandma worked at the Norvan Plymouth / Chrysler dealership in North Vancouver, B.C. Canada and this was a demo car. She bought it with a few miles on it on 7/2/1970. It was her only car and she drove it until she stopped driving in 1988. This Barracuda was her pride and joy! In June of 2009, we took a road trip up to beautiful British Columbia to bring the car home. It had not been moved out of the garage in 21 years. It was so covered with boxes, Christmas decorations, and dust, that you could barely see the car. A "barn find" you might say. Our intentions were to trailer the car home but after unearthing it and doing a once over we thought it might be possible to drive the car home. A quick trip to the local NAPA auto parts store to get some supplies including spark plug wires (rodents ate a two of them) and few hours work, we had the car running. After pumping the fuel tank dry and a quick service the car was ready to drive. The next morning we got a mover permit and insurance for it. Then a test drive to the gas station to fill it up and air the tires. So far so good! Back to the house we went, packed our bags and headed for the border! To make a long story short, the car performed flawlessly (including the Michelin "X" snow tires) and we had quite the adventure on the way home. Six days and 1,700 miles of road trip fun! Now for some details. The car was repainted in the middle 1980's and it was a "C" quality job at best. It has orange peel, dirt and runs in it. Over the years it has also picked up some nicks and scratches as well. The paint still looks presentable and is shiny. It looks great from 10 feet away... There is a dent in the drivers front fender as well as the front lower valence. When they repainted the car they also did some rust repair on the lower rear quarter panels and there is evidence of bondo that is now bubbling. The car appears to be fairly rust-free with nice rocker panels and floor pans (see photos). At the time it was painted a new vinyl top was installed. It is still in good condition but some of the retaining trim was damaged in the process. There are some small rust holes in the trunk (probably from a leaky vinyl top) The car was also lightly undercoated in the 1980's before it was parked. Tires are nice Michelin "X" radials from the 80's as well. Drivetrain is in good working order. "318" cubic inch V-8 with a 2-barrel carburetor. All fluids have been changed and it has had a tune-up including new plugs, wires, cap / rotor, points, air filter, and carb rebuild. It has an exhaust leak (drivers side manifold donut) and it smokes momentarily when first started (valve guide stem seals) Transmission is a "904" Torque-Flight that shifts perfectly. The brakes work good but the master cylinder and vacuum power booster have both developed small leaks. The car is still totally drivable and new replacement parts have been purchased and come with the car. There are also a few other new parts that come with the car including a fuel pump, belts, and hoses. The interior is very nice but not perfect. One small crack in the dash, a small nick in the headliner, small crack in the drivers seat, and a rip in the carpet by the heal pad. Steering wheel is crack-free but is worn. There is light pitting on the gear selector / console chrome but all other interior chrome is nice. All glass is excellent and everything works including the radio! Car comes with all original paperwork including the owners manual, build-sheet, dealer repair / service receipts, and old registrations. Current Nevada title is clear and in my name. Whoever buys this Barracuda will be the second registered owner!
