This 1988 Dodge Caravan has been donated to our non-profit organization, and we have not physically driven the vehicle ourselves. We understand that this Caravan always starts and runs fine, and the automatic transmission (which was replaced in the 1990's) still works great! The exterior is in decent condition for the age (see pics), but does have some minor scrapes and scratches, and a crease/dent on the front fender. The van was repainted in the 1990's, and the paint has held up well. It only started fading when the van went from being the primary to being the secondary family vehicle in 2005 (moved from the garage to outside). The interior is still in fairly good condition, but is showing it's age. The headliner has been replaced and is still in very good condition. The carpet and upholstery have stains, and the seats are showing wear (again, see pics). The upholstery on the back of the third row seat is gone, and was removed after it started coming apart some time ago. This does not affect the seating integrity at all. Both 2nd and 3rd row seats can be easily removed for hauling (see pics), or can be used to seat 7 people! An interior shampoo and detail would make a world of difference!!! The tires, brakes, exhaust, and glass are all in good condition (see pics), and the van has new rear spring shackles, ball joint, left front axle, and drive shaft! The van also has a newer alternator and windshield wiper motor. The AC does not blow cold (though the heater works fine), and we have been told that the van uses a little oil. An oil seal has been replaced, and the amount of oil that it uses in minor, but it should be checked every so often. The driver's side mirror adjusting cable is broken (mirror is fine), but it isn't a big problem given the otherwise excellent visibility. The lock on the glove compartment door (beneath the passenger seat) seized up a few years ago, and was removed. It is being held in place with a door stop. We also understand that the mileage has declined a little with age. The van used to get 20+ mpg, and now gets 13 -15 mpg. with a little less power. The odometer reads a little low, thus the actual mileage is in the neighborhood of 254,000 miles. Again however, the van runs and drives fine! The liftgate could use a new set of gas shocks. They work well enough in warm weather, but do not hold in cold weather. This is just a matter of convenience, and does not affect the van in any way. The van is extremely comfortable, and the passenger seat reclines to a sleeping position for long trips. The AM/FM cassette and power locks work as they should, and the cruise control works as well. The main downside to this van is the front end. Again, the van runs and drives fine as is, but will (at some point) need tie rod ends, ball joints, alignment, etc... Again, the van runs and drives fine as is, I'm just trying to be as thorough as possible. Anyone that knows these vans, knows that the 3.0 liter, 6 cylinder is a GREAT engine, and will run forever!
