Vehicle Detail
I had known of this vette for 20 years. We used to leave school and park across the street to watch the view. I had left notes and all the usual door knockers and drive-bys had failed. I've been chasing cars for a few years now, so you can imagine my surprise when the vette turned up in the garage sale section of the local want ads. I counted cash and rushed over to the old college hang out for a look-see. There was no-one around on a sleepy morning so I waited around for some activity. Soon an old codger appeared on the front porch lugging two ancient bicycles toward the sidewalk. Since this wasn't my first rodeo I decided to walk by and try my luck. I caught his attention and after a swig of coffee hollared up "ya ever think a selling the old vette?" He said, "As a matter of fact I am," the man responded. This began a conversation that lasted a short 15 minutes. The old man wouldn't even give up some gas to start the old vette! He finally relented and fired it right up. After another 5 we struck a deal, traded papers and off I went! This roadster had been thru a hard stretch but been loved. You could tell this old guy was really bummed to see her go. It's a great runner, all the mechanicals have been repaired. It has steel braided brakes lines and side pipes and all the stuff that was cool for the era. I think it was more of a function over form thing here. The owner told me he had a partnership in a mechanic's shop and he had all types of cool tools and bikes and engines and everything a car guy does back flips over. I haven't run the numbers but I will and I will update this ad and answer your questions and do whatever it takes to find this roadster the good home it deserves. On Feb-04-11 at 20:04:19 PST, seller added the following information: Update: A good friend of mine came to town and he's a real Chevy fan. I decided to surprise him and take him out to lunch in the vette. This car runs great. I remembered the old man told me the engine only had 10K miles on it. It was rebuilt at a shop I have been going to for 15 years. I took some time to notice what was working. The gas gauge works. The tach works. The spedo works. The temp gauge works. The seat belt warning light works. The headlights work, but the right side is stuck down. The tail lights work. The brake lights work. The reverse lights work. We got a lot of thumbs up cruising around on a sunny california day. Some college girls smiled at us. I have gone 70 mph on the freeway and there is a little shimmy which could be as minor as an unbalanced tire. I will definately miss having the vette around this summer. Happy bidding and have a good super bowl. On Feb-04-11 at 20:29:30 PST, seller added the following information: The old man always called the vette the '68, but looking here at the title, it's registered as a '69. On Feb-05-11 at 15:49:16 PST, seller added the following information: Hi there. It looks like the vette is going to sell so I figured I would take it on one last drive. I did about 60 miles and it's 70 degrees out here now in the San Francisco Bay Area. It's very beautiful springlike conditions perfect for a roadster. The vette performed very well. I drove up over Grizzly Peak, down Wildcat Canyon, and thru Bear Creek Road. The temperature hit 200 degrees once but cooled right off. The oil pressure stayed rock solid at about 50 to 60 lbs. When I stopped to visit some car guy friends one of them noticed the back up light indicator in the dash (which works). All in all I had a great time cruising the vette and I bet whoever gets this car is guaranteed a fun summer. While I was at my friend's house he showed me the engine number. It is 3970010. He also liked the aluminum radiator. Aaaaaaah what a ride. Gonna miss you Old Blue.
