Vehicle Detail
I purchased this car from the second owner that bought the car in 1970 from the orignal owner. The original purchased date was 10-3-69. I have owned the Javelin for 2 years. This was a father/son project that we lost interest in doing. The picture of the Javelin was taken in 2003. The previous owned sprayed the black primer in 2005 and replaced rear quarters with partial panels. The floors, trunk and body are solid, both rocker panels have rust near the front portion (I have new rocker panels that go with the car) In the photo I show the worst one which is on the passengar side. I removed the spark plugs and poured diesel fuel in the cylinders. The car ran and drove last summer. Now I turn the key and it just clicks. There is a small dent in the gas tank. I am retired and will continue to try and get it to start. All lights, turn signals, gas gauge, heater, defrost, wipers, radio, lighter, trun and glove box light, dome and lights all work. The miles listed are correct. The tires are almost new. The shifter works very smooth. The rubber around the doors and windows are in nice shape and the window all work good. The doors shut good. The center tray was badly cracked and will need to be replaced. There is one piece of chrome missing from the rear leftside window. Have original keys and owners manuals and 2 photos from 2003 go with the car. In my opinion this is one of the rarest cars made in 1969 by AMC and if it was the Javelin Badger Edition (only 2 known to exist) it would be very rare. This is an all numbers matching car and all original. The car to be a show car it needs a complete restoration or get the mechanichs right and drive it while you work on it.. Below is some of the research I have done on the 1969.5 Javelin SST that I am selling: The 1969.5 Javelin features a revised side striping, an altered grille with a bull's eye emblem, and trim upgrades. Includes the optional side stripe which was standard with the "Go-Package", five-spoke Magnum 500 steel road wheels with stainless steel trim ring. This late production car also received a hood over the instrument panel directly in front of the driver. This car is rare because it has the “Mod Javelin” Package that was only introduced mid-year in 1969 and included an unusual "Craig Breedlove" roof mounted spoiler, simulated "exhaust" rocker trim, and twin blacked-out simulated air scoops on the hood. The Go-package option was available with the four-barrel 343 or 390 engines, and continued to include disk brakes, "Twin-Grip" (limited slip) differential, red-stripe performance E70-14 tires on "Magnum 500" styled wheels, heavy-duty suspension with thicker sway-bars, and other enhancements. Starting January 1969, four-speed manual transmissions came with a Hurst floor shifter. 390 cu inch (6.4 L) V8 315 hp (235 kW; 319 PS) “390? V-8 was introduced with the 1968 AMX. This engine came with the highest-rated power output ever attained by a standard production American Motors engine – 315 horsepower, 425 foot-pounds torque. The thin-cast design brought total engine weight under 600 pounds. Boasting such heavy-duty components as forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods (instead of the usual cast iron) the “AMX 390? V-8 reflected an American Motors engineering objective of extreme reliability as well as power Interior • Individually adjustable reclining bucket seats trimmed breathable vinyl Smartly-styled aircraft-type instrument panel with wood-grain center applique • Simulated wood-grain sports steering wheel. • Door trim panels with bright trim and wood-grain applique. • Wood-grain applique on armrests. • Adjustable head restraints. • Printed instrument panel circuitry. • Padded windshield pillars and roof header. • Passenger grab handle above glove box. • Bin-type, locking glove box. • “between-seats” convenience tray with standard 4-speed manual transmission. • Weather-Eye heater and defroster. • Flow-Thru ventilation for full-car ventilation with windows closed. • “Pre-Set Impulse” door locking system. • Molded, cushioned acoustical ceiling. • Passenger compartment courtesy lights. • Cut-pile carpeting. • Suspended accelerator pedal. • Cigarette lighter. • Ball bearing front ash receiver. • Two-position door checks. 1969 AMC Specifications Engine The 1969 Javelin engine choices stayed mainly the same from 1968 to 1969, except the 343 two barrel was not an option. The Go Package once again consisted of the 343 or 390 engine, teamed with Carter AFB and dual exhaust. Transmission The standard 3 speed column shift on the 1968 model was changed to a floor shifter. Four speed models did not have a floor console, and mid year the 4 speed was teamed with a Hurst OEM Competition Plus shifter, replacing the previous bought Ford shifter. Group 19 Options Group 19 options were available on the 1969 Javelin 1969 AMC Javelin Engine Number Identification The engine code is stamped on a tag, located on the panel next to the distributor on 6 cylinder engines.
