As such, the 1995 S6 is virtually identical to the 1994 S4. A mid-size luxury performance-oriented sedan (and the rare wagon, mostly sold in Europe), the S6 featured a 2.2-liter, 227-hp turbocharged I5 engine and standard 6-speed manual transmission. With sports-tuned suspension, springs, and shocks, and dual exhaust pipes, the S6 boasted 0-60 in six seconds. Quattro all-wheel drive turned the commuter sedan into an outdoor all-weather, all-season car, sure-footed in any condition. Though the ride was firmer and performed optimally in highway driving, city roads were relatively smooth, thanks not only to Audi engineering, but its attention to comfort and luxury on the inside. The 1995 S6 came standard with leather seats, cruise control, intermittent wipers, power heated mirrors, a power sunroof, keyless entry, an alarm system, and the spoil-yourself heated front and rear seats. There was virtually nothing left for the options list except for a CD changer. As with the S4, owners of the 1995 S6 praise its precise handling, solid feel behind the wheel, and confident grip on the road. They report little body roll and expert cornering capability. The most frequent complaint was turbo lag, though once the S6 got into gear, it was pleasingly fast. High marks also go to the comfortable and roomy interior and the quattro technology. Some criticisms went to the soft braking and electrical system problems. As with all Audis, repairs and parts are jaw-dropping expensive. (From CarGurus.com: http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Overview-c374-1995-S6.html) Vehicle Description: I have owned this car since 2000 and it's been pampered the entire time. I am only selling because I recently purchased a 2004 S4 and cannot afford to own both cars; otherwise, I would keep this wonderful car forever. Religious oil changes at 3,000 mile intervals (has only ever seen Mobil 1 full-synthetic; 10W-40 for winter, 15W-50 for summer) and proper fluid warm up prior to any engine speeds over 3,000 rpms means this motor still pulls factory-strong. These engines are bullet-proof (just look at the mileage of completed listings), but I have always been a stickler for engine maintenance. All five (5) OEM Bosch spark plugs were replaced 15K miles ago along with new plug boots. I only ever pump 92-93 octane gas (Shell and Chevron mostly, because they employ the best detergents). I would advise against using anything lower in a turbocharged car. This car is extremely unique among US UrS6's in that it has an 0E1 6-speed (code DSY) installed. Although European S-cars were mostly available with 6-speeds, the North American code cars were only available with 5-speeds. The original transmissions in these cars had a very rigid first gear that is notorious for "gear whine" if the gear surface becomes galled. In the 6-speeds, the first gear was produced with a slightly more flexible shaft that reduced shock and thus did away with the galling issue. The original transmission from this car began exhibiting gear whine at around 95K miles and was quickly replaced with a 6-speed (at considerable cost). The result is a faster and more fuel efficient UrS6 vs standard North American cars. The suspension on this car is still completely original and actually quite tight considering its age. All four brakes are functioning and the pedal feels pleasantly firm. The front rotors were replaced 30K miles ago with cross-drilled Zimmerman OE units which greatly reduced fade and have done a better job at resisting warpage than the standard solid rotors. Front pads were replaced 10K miles ago. Tires still have about half of their tread remaining. Wheels are either perfect or have minimal curb-rash (good luck finding OEM 16" Speedline's in as good condition). The exterior has been almost exclusively hand-washed (I can't stand the swirl marks that come from automated car-washes) it's entire life, however that's not to say that the paint is perfect. This car has never had paint work, which means it's developed its share of "patina" over the years. The doors, fenders and quarter panels are in very good shape and the pictures should demonstrate this. The hood and roof, however, have slowly begun to oxidize and will need a respray if this car is to be brought back to perfect condition (only noticeable when looking for it). Headlights are clean and fully functional, as is the brakelight unit and all indicators. The interior is perhaps one of the better aspects of the car. As the pictures show, it has managed to escape the abuse that most UrS's have endured at this point. No leather tears whatsoever and only minimal cracking/wear on the driver seat. All other seating surfaces are in excellent condition. The steering wheel is also in fantastic shape considering most three-spoke wheels have been compromised in one way or another by now. The instrument cluster is fully functional. The only light out on the whole car is the one which illuminates the clock at night. Also, as is common for these cars, the center display has slowly lost almost all contrast but is still legible in the right light. The climate control is in perfect working order, however the A/C compressor has developed a whine and the system could probably use a refill. Included in this auction is a replacement A/C compressor (not installed). The only other niggles about this car is that the ignition no longer "springs" the key back to neutral after turning it to start the car - you simply turn the key back yourself - and the driver-side door lock locks the entire car with two twists only intermittently (50% of the time). The passenger side works perfectly and I have a feeling this could be fixed easily via the electronic relay. Finally, the parking brake cable has been stretched over the years and no longer holds the car's weight - a very simple fix. Regarding the "Lemon" event shown in the Experian AutoCheck report, I will explain what little I understand about it. From what I remember, the car was bought back by the manufacturer early on in its life (24K miles) due to a faulty fuel line issue that Audi apparently could not properly resolve. This was a common problem with these cars; so common, that in 2000 there was finally a recall on the S6 that switched out the fuel line for one that would not shrink under the engine heat of a turbo car. That recall, along with the ignition recall, have been performed on this car. The second lemon event (in Albany NY) corresponds to when I purchased the car from a dealer in Massachusetts and titled the car in New York State. As I certainly have never made a lemon claim on this car (nor could I, given how old it was at that point), this second mention of a lemon event on the report is a mystery to me. Perhaps it showed up because the car was simply re-titled in the state that originally titled it as a lemon. In any case, I have driven the car for approximately 60K miles with no out-of-the-ordinary maintenance issues. Honestly, I wouldn't have been able to afford keeping the car for so long if it had. I have been very up front about the issues this car currently has. Other than what I have mentioned, I can assure you that this car is in very good condition considering its age. As I said above, I would be keeping this car and likely restoring it back to absolutely perfect condition if the high opportunity cost weren't such an issue for me. I have adored this car and I feel that anyone with a similar enthusiasm for fast Audis will take great pleasure in owning this rare all wheel drive sports sedan.
