Vehicle Detail
This highly optioned, very clean 1979 911SC has been meticulously maintained and garaged over its entire life. Although the chassis has over 195K miles on it, there is only approx 24K on a complete engine rebuild. See the listing below to see what and when repairs and modifications have been performed. The usual upgrades have all been made, such as pop-off valve, chain tensioners, voltage regulator, etc. This Porsche needs nothing except maybe new rear tires at some point. Although there is no air conditioning, it's a targa so AC is not really required. The latest tune-up was performed by Pat Williams of Pat Williams Racing in Memphis. Pat has offered to vouch for the car's mechanical condition and performance (and if you are within driving distance of Memphis, PWR does very good work and enjoys an excellent reputation). It runs very well and sounds much better than my 1995 Carrera. No drips in the garage since I purchased the car in October 2006. There was a minor engine fire last December caused by mechanic error (me) but all damage was repaired (new engine wiring harness, heater hoses, etc.) Larry Nichols, a local former Porsche mechanic did much of the work and Pat Williams completed the job. The color is Mercedes Ivory, which was a special order factory color in 1979. The body is not perfect as there is some road rash particularly around the front bumper and valence. There are no dents. The doors and most of the body rear of the doors have been repainted. The rear deck lid was repainted after the engine fire, as there was a small area that had become discolored. The paint forward of the doors is mostly original, except for the bezel rings around the upgraded H4 headlamps. I have the original sealed beams and original bezels and will include them with the car. The targa top is in very good condition, including the headliner. The rear targa seal was recently replaced, as was the front and rear windshield molding. The polished thresholds, with the "SC" inscription, are an upgrade and are in very good condition. The interior has been largely redone, with new carpets and new leather for the front sport seats and the bottoms of the rear seats. Some interior items have been replaced due to cracking and fading, such as the heater levers and door lock buttons. New Momo steering wheel and aftermarket console, into which I installed a voltmeter. The console came with a vinyl-covered fiberglass center panel which I ditched in favor of a painted aluminum panel (I used etch primer so the paint will stick). The dash has no cracks, but it is somewhat wavy on the right side and there is discoloration behind the steering wheel. I had considered using leather dye (which is available in Cork, the interior color) to repair the discoloration but never got around to it. There is also some discoloration on the rear carpets where there was some overspray of leather dye used on the seats prior to the leather upgrade, but this is not visable unless you pull the seats back and look for it. The leather Momo shift knob was an earlier upgrade and is showing a little wear. The original shift knob is in the glove compartment. A short shift kit was installed by a previous owner. All of the gauges and lights work except for the rectangular brake and seat belt warning lights above the console. The white gauge faces were done by North Hollywood speedometer and they also repaired the odometer, which was broken when I purchased the car (it appears that it was not broken for too many miles going by the mileage references below). The sun visors were recently stripped and re-upholstered, with all of the padding left out, leaving a thin flat appearance. The engine and exhaust are stock except for the aforementioned upgrades and the addition of a Fabspeed performance airbox cover. A complete oils service and filter was performed 10/2/2010. Note that this was a CA car for its entire life prior to my purchase in 2006 and met all emissions tests. Did I mention that it runs very well? In the trunk there is all the usual stuff including tool kit, emergency kit, cables, jack and fitted car cover. The trunk carpet is in very good condition. The front tires have about 4K miles on them; the rear tires are about ready for replacement. The original Blaupunkt AM/FM cassette was replaced with a Kenwood head unit and new speakers. The antenna motor does not work, so the antenna stays extended unless manually recessed. I am also including the pictured books with the car, since I do not need them for my 1995 Carrera. I have a large file containing most purchase, maintenance and repair documents since day one. I would really like the purchaser of this Porsche to be an owner who will show this car the respect and care that it has been shown for the first 32 years of its existence. Good luck bidding!
