Vehicle Description 1968 American Motors Rebel SST Convertible. VIN A8A177M159256. Almost 75,000 one owner miles. Body ID#R008242, Model#6817-7,Trim 874K, Paint 47A H036667. This car was purchased by my dad on Mother’s Day in 1968 for my mom. We have been the sole Owner of the vehicle throughout its life. It has been a joy to own and a valued member of our family. I began restoring it back to its original shape 8 years ago. The roof has been replaced due to deterioration. I also had it painted as the original green paint was really faded. You can see the original color is some photos. It has spent all of it's time in my garage for the past 11 years while I have restored it. It has never been exposed to the elements while I have owned it and my mom always kept it in the garage while she owned it. I haven’t driven the car since last September. I ripped all of the interior carpet out last summer. The car has a 290 V8 and is an automatic transmission. The car goes well in forward but takes a few seconds to drop into reverse. This is the original engine and tranny. I have tried to keep it as original as possible. Please feel free to contact me with your questions or come by for a look. The car is located Omaha, Nebraska. As can be see by my feedback, I am an honest and straight forward seller. I am selling this car as I no longer have the time to restore it. Transmission - The tranny was not rebuilt by me but worked with no problems when I drove the car last time except for the time it takes to go into reverse as I mentioned above, The car does go in reverse. The fluid has not been drained recently. I would suggest this be done. Rear end – See above issues. Original. The drive shaft and u joints worked perfectly and had no balance problems or vibrations. Brakes – You need to pump the brakes to get them to operate once in a while. I have never worked on them. Tires and wheels are in excellent condition. There is a spare wheel and jack in the trunk. I believe they are both original. The tires hold air. Electrics – Speedometer and gages work. Radio works. The wipers are vacuum powered and don’t work as the wiper switch is bent and the vacume that runs them may need replacement. Speed of wipers are based on the engine vacuum, which is hard to get used to. As far as I know all the lights, warning lights, etc. work fine. I took the battery out last year so there is no battery in the car. If you want the battery when you get car I will give it to you. The battery cables do need to be replaced as they are becoming corroded. That is why I took out the battery to replace the cables The radio is AM only and works. The outside antenna is busted off accidently last year. I have the antenna that broke off if you want it. No A/C. Convertible top. The top doesn’t go down now as the original switch to operate the top motor broke last year. The motor to raise and lower the top works but there is currently no switch to operate the convertible top motor. Interior - The rear seats are in good shape. They are original and have no rips or tears. The front seats fell apart and I replaced them with the vinyl seats you see in the picture. The door panels are in good shape and the doors operate both from the inside and outside to get in. The weather stripping is a bit worn, but fine for stopping the windows from rattling. The convertible top is only 3 years old. The frame and latches are good. The glass is also very good and there are no cracks. The seats and visors are also in good shape. The dash is fine, but there is a smudge on the dash on passenger side. The windows do go down and up with the latch but the windows get binded in the opening so you have to help them up and down most of the time. Cooling - The radiator has not been touched but the car ran cool all when I drove it. The water pump also has not been touched. Body - The chrome is very good with pitting in a few spots. The bumpers look great. There was some body work performed on the left front wheel well. I have a picture of that area. There is basically very little if any rust issues. There is a rubbed area in the front hood that needs touchup paint. The inside of the car has some rusting. The rust has not gone through the floorboards in any location. The gas tank had no rust or leaks. The car does not leak oil of fluids while sitting. Some of the plastic nameplates have missing letters like on the left side where it says “ebel” instead of “Rebel” The car starts right up but will not continue to run without giving it gas. Once the car warms up it runs on its own without giving it gas. I would assume that there is bad gas in the car since it has been sitting for a year now basically. I would highly suggest dumping out gas in tank. Extras - The car comes with the original Owner's Manual. I have some floor mats but I am pretty sure they are not original that go with car. Terms of Sale and Agreements: I can hold the car for you for two weeks at no charge. Please call me after the auction to arrange shipment or pickup. RECORDS SHOW THAT FEWER THAN 100 SURVIVE TODAY, AND ONE AMC CLUB WEBSITE LISTS ONLY TEN AS CURRENTLY REGISTERED AND ON THE ROAD". I provide it as information only. I have the original title to the car dated in 1968 along with the original Owners manual. I also have the original keys with the AMC logo and stamped in key code on them. As for bondo, which everyone seems to be concerned with. I am only aware of a small amount above the driver side wheel well. Looks like it's an area about 6 inches long by maybe 1-2 inches high.
