Vehicle Detail
This handsome orange Porsche was discovered on a narrow side street in the foothills of my town. The road was blocked off at the end with a turn around, so thru traffic had been limited. We left a note without giving it much thought and went about our routine. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a call almost a year later from the owner. He was a young man who had been transplanted to another city and was returning home for a spell. He wanted to make quick work of selling his car and we reached an agreement amicably. It was a little bit of a gamble but after a year of pulling cars out of fields, farms and rose thickets, this was a refreshing find. It didn’t take long to shine this little car up to what you see here. It was remarkably intact and one of the better originals in the last batch of projects. There are times in a car guy’s life, that are worth celebrating and this little car ended the year on a high note. I received an excited call from my partner once he had gained access to the trunk and bonnet. There was none of the usual water damage or items carelessly strewn about. The previous owner was indeed fastidious and detailed oriented. We started the car with just a fresh battery and some gas. Unfortunately after 5 minutes the dried out fuel lines cracked and began to drip fuel dangerously close to the exhaust. The exhaust was a high end Italian Ansa system. Unfortunately it had taken a hit and broken the left side beyond repair. This item will need replacing. The trunk hinge was also broken on the left side and will need mending. There is a photo of some body damage in front of the passenger side rear wheel. When we first hooked up the battery the horn started blaring incessantly. That must have been the reason the horn button was on the passenger seat when we purchased the Porsche. The rear bumper has a split and will need some work there. The left side tail light is also busted. I live next to a Porsche dismantler and if you would like I can stick some parts in the 914 as long as you pay for them. We were very pleased to have acquired this classic German sports car. It is in much better condition than most of the cars we have gone thru this year. It is showing just 83,000 on the odometer. It will need some work on the interior and some love on the exterior. I have not driven this car on the street and it will be up to you to blow the cob webs off yourself. This little car has a lot going for it and will be a blast to drive. Please check our feedback and feel free to ask any questions. International shipping is not a problem, and it would be my pleasure to deliver this striking orange 914 to your doorstep. Update: Today I conferred with my local Porsche shop owner and determined the engine is a 1.8L. I have also added a pic of the battery tray, which has deteriorated, and has revealed the underside to be intact. There is surface rust in the area one eBay member referred to as the "hell hole." I poked and prodded around and found it to be uncompromised, meaning no holes or corrosion thru the body. I intend to replace the old rubber fuel lines and have the Porsche up and running before the close of the auction. Please check for an update on Saturday morning. Update #2 Fixing a fuel leak was easier than I expected. About a foot of fuel line and 4 hose clamps was all it took. After warming up the engine, I took the 914 out on the street for the first time in 5 years. It shifted smoothly and I had a good time blowing the cob webs off myself. The brakes felt a little low, but I hadn't check the fluid levels. It went into reverse just fine and I can confidently tell you that I will be driving this car onto a shipping truck for the buyer. If it's going oversees, I will probably just drive it to the shipper myself.
