Vehicle Detail
1937 Cord 812 Westchester Sedan Ready to build the ultimate Hot Rod? I am offering for sale one of my "I will get to it someday cars". However, it seems that someday isn't getting any closer, and I'm willing to share the dream before someday never arrives. You are looking at a 1937 Cord Westchester (slant back) sedan. I've owned the car since about 2005, but have done nothing with it since I purchased it (except dreamed of building the ultimate resto-rod). The car is missing ALL of it's original front wheel drive chassis components, including the engine and transmission. It has an early Ford 3rd member in place of the original rear axle, and as you can see was maybe at one point actually used as a RWD car (a tunnel has been installed). It would be a long haul to put this car back to original and I frankly don't know if it would make sense to do so. I guess it could be done if someone had a complete drivetrain, but to me, it is ideal for a resto-rod project. The body is quite sound and straight. The car does have some rust (above the arch of the front fenders, a few holes in the bottom of the drivers side doors, some rust in the floorboards and I'm sure in other areas that old cars rust), but the body is much better than most in my opinion. The car appears to have been partially stripped of paint finish years ago and so the drivers side does have plenty of surface rust on the roof and quarter. The dash is fairly complete with most original gauges in place, as well as the headlight cranks, glove box doors and windshield cranks (and yes, the windshield frames are also included). It also has all of the interior door garnish mouldings (5), rear seat springs, partial front seat, all glass (drivers side door glass is out), both rear fender stainless rock shields, and a small box of miscellaneous dash, tail light and window/door crank pieces. The car has a clear Wyoming title and supporting bill of sale, dating back to 1976 - presumably the last time to car may have seen road use (also evidenced by the WY sticker on the drivers windshield glass, dated 1974-1975). The title matches the VIN # on the car. If you know that you are going to Hot Rod the car, I have a growing list of folks who have asked to buy parts that typically wouldn't be used on a Rod (such as the windshield frames, gauges, headlight winders, taillights, etc). I would even consider selling the car without these parts, and taking some $ off the price if you prefer.......email me your thoughts on this BEFORE the auction ends. And if you are one of those folks who sees something on the car that typically wouldn't be used on a Rod or Custom, send me an email with your interest......I will pass it along to the buyer, or if the car doesn't sell on this auction, may consider selling the requested part. This car is located in Central California, about 30 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean, and exactly halfway between Los Angeles and San Franciso on US Hwy 101. It is a roller, thanks to a front wheel dolly system attached to the front transaxle mount, and can be pulled onto a trailer with ease. I've attached a couple of pictures of a few Cord customs to get your ideas flowing........including a few artist sketches of some wild convertible Cord customs, plus a relatively stock looking Apple Green Westchester (just like this car), and a gorgeous Black Westchester that has been converted to a two door sedan (both of these cars run late model V/8 drivetrains, yet appear mostly stock). And for the very few of you who I must say this for.......the restored cars shown in the last few photos are NOT included in this offering! (there is always one who has to ask such a dumb question!) You know, even Jay Leno has a 1937 812 Westchester in his garage: http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/at-the-garage/antiques/1937-cord-812-westchester/ Call or email me with questions. My name is Scott, and my phone # is 805-391-0509, and my email is scott@scottandbrian.com . Don't buy and then ask questions......ask questions first and then bid with vigor! If you want a more detailed picture of some area of the car, ask for it (please include your email address with any requests). And please don't bid unless you are intent on buying the car. I've tried to be 100% up-front with this information, and I expect the same from any bidder. BTW, I may also be offering my '35 Cadillac Club Sedan for sale soon, which is also in my "someday" collection.
