Vehicle Detail
Just out of 29 year storage, No rustout found, just surface rust it had when stored. This sold new in Seattle and used for delivery many years when purchased by the LeMay Museum for restoration 29 years ago. and stored inside. Sold by museum 7 years ago and put into storage van and recently removed to get running and let it see daylight. Evidently it had front end damage and both front fenders, hood and grille were replaced, as well as what appears to be a new, not rebuilt radiator. (Still holding antifreeze and does not overheat) Somehow I never before noticed, but it has a 1954 grille, and the parking lights are included but not mounted. It shows 94,000 miles and has current title. It has the original 6 cylinder 223 cubic inch engine and 3 speed transmission on the column. The inside is dirty, but solid (all floorboards are solid) and after replacing the fuel pump and filters it started right up and runs very nicely with no smoke. The brakes do not work, (they stop it...but barely) but I just bought new wheel cylinders and a new master brake cylinder that goes with the truck, but are not installed. The hood is very straight and although the hood hinges were missing, I just purchased a nice used set which are included but not installed. One rear door hinge needs welded (the plate that the right lower hinge bolts to is what needs to be welded back into the door jamb). and there are numerous small dents and dings throughout, but the metal is solid. The tires are very poor. The doors shut nicely, the windshield is cracked, but it comes with a nice used windshield and new windshield rubber gasket in the package, as well as new rubber door seals, although the original ones appear good. The truck is partially converted to 12 volt system, but still need to install included alternator and change light bulbs. The wiper motors and likage were missing, but I found 2 sets on e-bay and are included. I have only driven it around the block due to the brakes, but gears worked good and quiet, and the clutch seems fine. The original heater works well, but will need a voltage reducer as it is 6 volt. The right front wheel brake shoes do not release completely, but it will drive onto a truck or trailer. I think this rig could be a driver with a solid weekends work, and I know how popular it is for someone to buy a rig with grand ideas...tear it apart, order "billet" items and a "crate" Chev. engine and let it sit and rust for 10 years...that would be a shame for this truck...just my opinion... THIS RIG IS ADVERTISED ELSEWHERE AND I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO WITHDRAW IT AT ANY TIME IF IT SELLS LOCALLY FIRST. IT IS BEING OFFERED AS/IS, WHERE/IS WITH ANY AND ALL FAULTS, WITH GOOD WASHINGTON TITLE, AND IS OFFERED WITH NO RESERVE, JUST A VERY LOW STARTING BID TO KEEP EVERYONE “HONEST” PLEASE DO NOT BID IF YOU HAVE NO INTENTION ON PAYING!! THE TRUCK CAN STAY HERE FOR 30 DAYS WITH NO CHARGE IF PAID FOR, WHICH MUST BE DONE WITHIN 5 DAYS OF AUCTION CLOSING. LONGER STORAGE (OUTSIDE/COVERED) IS AVAILABLE AT $50.00 PER MONTH. I have been working on it for several weeks worth of evenings, and had hoped to keep it, but am out of storage, so I listed several other projects and will withdraw the panel from sale if they sell first, as it will need little to be road worthy and I would like to keep it. These are becoming very difficult to find in restorable condition and they bring high dollars in decent roadworthy condition, and this would be a very good investment if just stored away till a better economy. FINDING ANOTHER, ESPECIALLY IN THIS PRICE RANGE THAT IS SOLID WITH NO RUSTOUT WOULD BE A RARE THING... NOTE: IN THE REAR VIEW PICTURE IT APPEARS RUSTY UNDER THE REAR DOORS IN THE BOTTOM PANEL. IT IS NOT. IT SEEMS TO BE SOME LATEX OR OTHER PAINT SPILLED OUT THE REAR AT SOME TIME. I STARTED TO MEDIA BLAST THIS AREA AND IT COMES RIGHT OFF WITH MY LITTLE IMPORT BLASTER. I HAVE NOT FOUND ANY RUST THRU IN THIS TRUCK, OR DEEP PITS. IT NEEDS A GOOD PRESSURE WASHING AND LIGHT MEDIA BLASTING INSIDE...EASIER THAN HAND SANDING THE LIGHT SURFACE RUST ON FRONT FLOORBOARDS IN PLACES AND TO CLEAN THE RER FLOOR. THE MAJOR BODYWORK NEEDED IS BEHIND EACH REAR WHEEL WHERE IT HAS SMALL DENTS AND SCAPES AND WILL NEED TO BE WORKED OUT, BUT THE METAL IS VERY SOLID. I don't have a lot of spare time, (at 68 years old, time is getting very precious), and hate typing...so if YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK BEFORE BIDDING. Thanks for looking. On Dec-18-10 at 23:07:39 PST, seller added the following information: update dec. 18th: Above I noted that if my other projects sell beforehand, that I might withdraw this panel from sale...after thinking about it and selling another Ford today that I would have rather kept, I realize that I have enough to do to finish my first love (1947 Coupe) and I am going to allow this auction and sale of this panel to run to the finish and go to the high bidder. Thank you for taking the time to look at my listing and good luck!!!! This truck is an old "sweetheart"!!!!
