Vehicle Detail
Up for bid is my silver 1987 Monte Carlo SS with gray interior that is unmolested and complete with the original engine, transmission etc. I am not claiming this is a mint car. Restore it or use it as a donor for your current Monte Carlo project. I bought it last year and I am the third owner but I have to sell it because am moving out of the area. It has a clear South Carolina title. Now the good, the bad and the typical. Original 305 HO V8 engine with computer controlled 4-barrel carburetor; for some eBay defaults to the V-6 only. TH200-4R 4-speed overdrive transmission with console; console lid is broke but is still there. Most of the dash plastic trim is in great shape. A dash cap is installed. The cloth bucket seats are in good condition, not broke and sit up correctly but has s little wear on the driver’s seat; the back seat is good too. The carpet is in decent shape for being the original. The T-tops do not leak and the original vinyl storage case will come with the car. Has power front disc and rear drum brakes. It comes with the original 15x7 5-spoke silver aluminum wheels. Tilt steering has a solid column; it does not “float” like other GM types from this era. Has a Pioneer CD player with detachable face; I do not have the original radio. The power windows work fine but the passenger side is slow going up. The floor boards are solid but there is slight scaling rust in some places underneath; no holes. There is no headliner but the fiberboard is still there. The paint is not the best it can be because there are a few rust spots as you can see from the pictures; 2 spots on the trunk lit, 1 on the rear left quarter, and a couple of small spots on the right door. There is a large hole on the left door, on the bottom, from when I removed a rust spot so you’ll need to patch, re-skin or replace the door and there some small amount around the wheel wells and a hole inside the rear right wheel well. The last owner did some touch up paint work that blended well. The frame is fine but has some surface rust, or course. There is also some surface rust on the undercarriage various places that will clean up well. The car is almost 24 years old and does have some squeaks but what car from the 80s doesn’t’? It’s typical but not unbearable and you can remedy this by replacing the bushings. The last owner installed some window tint that for the most part is completely removed but still has some pieces to left. The A/C works when charged and was retrofitted to R134a but keep in mind it does not cool a like a 2011 Cadillac. This car truly does run fine and I drive it nearly every day. The exhaust sounds nice without holes and the engine doesn’t knock. Because it has the original carburetor, it will cause it to blow a gasoline rich cloud of smoke once in a while if you drive it a short way, shut it off then start off again without giving the gas time to evaporate. It all has to do with the carb’s seals according to a mechanic I know that is in love with Rochester carburetors. The carb still idles great and the car sound excellent. I would drive this thing across the country today if I had a reason. I invite you to come and take a look at it if you are in the area or email me with any questions. It’s hard to completely describe every bit of a vehicle of this age but I’ve attempted the best I can because I am not trying to push anything over on anyone or mislead. Please look at the pictures and if you're in the area, please stop and take a look at it. If you have any questions, contact me. I am not a dealer and have no warranty to give; so it’s being sold “As Is”. My wife and I will be available to help you get it loaded by your chosen shipping company (at your cost).
