This is an extremely nice and somewhat original 1968 Ford Mustang Convertible survivor that is fairly well known in the Denver area. It still has its ORIGINAL Lime Gold exterior paint job (Yes, the body on this car has all of its ORIGINAL Ford paint on it – No Kidding)! It’s also the most solid early Mustang that I have ever driven. I have owned this car for approximately the last eight years and it’s always been garaged, covered and taken care of. This has always been a Colorado Car. The convertible top was professionally replaced as well as the interior front and rear seat upholstery at some time in its life and they are all in very good to excellent condition. The top does have a two-piece folding glass rear window and the urethane is split approximately 12 inches on the passenger side. This car is over 42 years old and has a lot of history. I’ll try to sum up its history the best way I can. The first owner was a quarterback at Colorado University. He owned it for about a year. I’ve been told that CU went to the Rose Bowl that year but I don’t know for sure. It was purchased new from Johnnie Harper Ford and it still has the Johnnie Harper Ford emblem attached to the taillight panel. I'm pretty sure this dealership was in Arvada, CO at about the 38th and Wadsworth corner. The second owner (no one is quite sure who he was) owned the car for a very short time but I have receipts dating back to that time. He owned it for less than a year from what I can figure out. The third owner was a cool guy from the Denver area, His name is Don. He bought the car and kept it for around 30 years. He kept it in a barn for many years and worked on it and added to it when he could. I still have his contact information. The car was pretty option-less when the third owner bought it around 1970 or so, and he spent the following 30 years adding Genuine Ford options and rare accessories to it. (I know the car was shown at car shows for many years because when I started showing it, everybody knew who had owned it before me)! Then the third owner decided somewhere around the year 2000 that it was time to get into Corvettes so he put this Mustang up for sale. My dad and I saw this car at a car show for sale and we couldn’t believe that this was an original paint Mustang Convertible with such low mileage, so my dad bought it – this car was nice and the real thing and we both knew it. My dad owned it for about 2 years before moving to Florida and lost his garage space here in Colorado, so I bought the car from my dad about 7 to 8 years ago. I guess the important thing to point out about this car is that it still has its factory original exterior paint job from 1968 (which basically means no wrecks, no body damage, no reproduction body panels, no body filler and no re-paints, no new floor pans etc). I must also point out that it does not have any major dents in it. It does however have some very minor door ding scrapes and a few minor scratches in the original paint but this has never kept it from winning trophies at our local and statewide car shows. Once the judges realize that this is an original paint car it actually becomes more popular once they realize that it HASN’T been completely restored or re-painted. The second important thing to point out is that its ORIGINAL mileage now sits at 50,901 miles as of 12/05/2010. I have quite a bit of documentation from over the years and there's no reason to believe this mileage is not accurate. The doors shut nice and solid (better than any Mustang I've ever owned) and the glass is in very good to excellent condition. This car is not exactly as it left the factory but it has been improved upon over its early years with all original Ford Parts and Accessories from the third owner. I have all of the receipts from the past that were given to me. I also have a Marti Report (which shows how the car came from the factory) and I'll try to show what's been done to the Mustang since then and since I’ve owned it. 1968 Mustang Convertible 289 Engine (this is a February built car - they went to 302 engines later in the year) – runs extremely well. Automatic C4 Transmission (Very Solid – no problems), Power Steering, Power Brakes with Front Disk Brakes, Air Conditioning (that works), Fog lights, Pop Open Gas Cap, Center Console, AM/FM radio, Dash Clock (that works).Warranty Number: 8F03C156429Year:81968 Plant:FDearborn, MI Body Series:03Convertible Engine:C289 2v V8 Unit:156429156429 Miscellaneous Vehicle DataBody:76AConvertible, Standard Interior Color:ILime Gold Metallic Trim:2GLt. The engine runs fantastic. When my dad bought it, the intake manifold was a 1966 4-barrel intake. I changed the Motorcraft carburetor that was on it and replaced it with a rebuilt Autolite 4100 four-barrel carburetor (rebuilt by Pony Carburetors). This actually makes the car run better than its original set-up and it does run great. The following parts have also been replaced: Rear Axle Leaf Springs (and Bushings) Rear Drum Brake Shoes and hoses Edelbrock IAS Shocks Progressive Rate Front Coil Springs and New Spring Perches Electronic Ignition (Pertronix) Custom Dual Exhaust Sytem - Magnaflow Stainless Steel 2 1/2-inch exhaust with X-Pipe (this exhaust system cost me over $800.00) Custom Monte Carlo Bar Ford Motorcraft Radiator Cap Ford Motorcraft Positive Battery Cable Ford Motorcraft Upper Radiator Hose Ford Motorcraft Lower Radiator Hose Ford Motorcraft Thermostat Ford Motorcraft Thermostat Hose Ford Motorcraft PCV Hose Ford Motorcraft Heater Hoses Ford Motorcraft Distributor Cap Ford Motorcraft Distributor Rotor Ford Motorcraft PCV Valve Ford Motorcraft Fuel Filter Ford Motorcraft Air Conditioning Idler Pulley Ford Motorcraft Oil Filler Cap Ford Motorcraft Battery (replaced 6 months ago) Ford Motorcraft Alternator Belt Ford Motorcraft Power Steering Belt Ford Motorcraft Air Conditioning Belt Ford Motorcraft Spark Plugs Ford Motorcraft Coil Ford Motorcraft Water Pump Ford Motorcraft Oil Filter The Ford Motorcraft items can be a bit pricey, but they fit and work so that's why I use them. I like to use genuine Ford parts when I can find them. Other Items replaced since my ownership: Clutch Fan Power Steering Hoses Spark Plug Wires (Date Coded) All Five Tires are Brand New - (BF Goodrich Radial TA's - less than 200 miles on them – The spare tire is brand new) Headlights Fog Lights Rear Axle Seals Heater Core Choke Tube Set All Hose Clamps Power Steering Pump - (had it rebuilt) Oversize Front Sway Bar from Addco Windshield Washer Tank And I just replaced the Air Filter, Fuel Filter, Oil Filter and Oil. This original paint, low mileage 68 Mustang looks, runs, and drives wonderfully. This is a very tight, solid and comfortable car. It also wins trophies at car shows and gets thumbs up wherever it goes (even from the Harley Guys)! For some reason, the ladies really like it. They keep telling me that the car matches their purses or sweaters or something. Many people (mostly ladies - OK, only ladies) have asked to have their pictures taken of them in this car at our local car shows. I’m always cool with that! I am almost 100 percent positive that if someone wins this auction, they will not be disappointed in the condition of this vehicle - I really wish I didn't have to sell this car, it's nicer and more solid than many restored Mustangs that I have seen (especially convertibles). Terms and Conditions: The car is located in Parker, CO (1/2 hour south of Denver). It will be sold as is with no warranties or guarantees of any kind implied. Buyer is responsible for shipping or pickup and I will gladly cooperate with this process. I retain the right to end this auction early as the vehicle may also be listed for sale locally. A $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of auction end. Paypal will be accepted for the deposit but not for the final balance.
