Vehicle Detail

1965 BMW R60/2 Private Sale Vehicle Details Year 1965 Condition Restored Used Year Manufactured 1964 Engine 600cc VIN 626901 Matching #s Color Dover White Mileage 58,038 on Odometer Model R60/2 Title Status Clear Make BMW Description After purchasing this newly restored bike in 2002 I flew to Kansas City Missouri, took possession and enjoyed a wonderful 1500 mile trip home. One of the first things I noticed was how often people stopped to admire it's vintage quality. BMW is truly the Rolls Royce of motorcycles. One day I spent 12 hours on this smooth touring bike without fatigue. Well now I'm 62 and selling most of what I own for I plan to spend my remaining years doing humanitarian work in Uganda Africa. I am confident that after winning this auction you will thoroughly enjoy owning, riding and displaying this beautifully restored machine. This 1965 R60/2 is a complete mechanical and cosmetic rebuild of an already sound machine. The engine, transmission, and drive train inspection and restoration was accomplished by Brown BMW Motor Works in California. The bottom end was opened, slingers serviced, bearings inspected and new seals installed. The heads were cleaned, new valves, guides seats and springs installed. Carbs were also rebuilt. Cylinders were sand blasted, painted, bored and received new pistons and rings to complete engine work. Magneto was replaced and new points, coil, wires and spark plug caps were installed to complete ignition service. The dynamo is working properly and only got new brushes to match other work. Recently installed is a new authentic German Blitz battery. The clutch was serviced including a new clutch plate. The transmission was in good order, but was still disassembled, cleaned and fitted with new seals. Final drive had no issues, and was left alone except for cleaning and renewal of fluids. The chassis was fitted with new bearings in the swing arms. Shocks were fitted with new blocks and shock absorber cartridges. With the new suspension and chassis bearings the handling is amazingly light. All body and frame parts were stripped to bare metal and repainted in Dover White with correct pin striping applied. Bike was reassembled with both chrome and high quality stainless fasteners. Speedometer was rebuilt at Palo Alto Speedometer and I presume set to it's original mileage. I purchased the bike with less than 500 miles after it's restoration and have put less than 2400 miles on it. All wiring is new. In the process of replating each factory chrome item, additional parts were plated as well. Note the air filter, lower shock assemblies, upper rear shock nut covers, top portion of the carburetors, left front and rear center wheel cover discs, all 4 foot pegs, engine and steering dampener mounting brackets, shift lever, kick start lever, break leaver, oil pan, and both front and rear axles. New mufflers were installed with rechromed header pipes. A new Steiger solo seat was fitted, along with a Pegusa rear seat. The shift lever rubber grommet comes with the bike, I took it off to accommodate my large boots. Still together with this matching numbers bike are the original fuel tank storage door/fork lock key and headlamp ignition key as well as the often missing original tire pump. Nine original BMW tools as well as a later BMW German tool kit are in the tank glove box. Both front and rear tires are Metzeler brand with only a few thousand miles of use. A Certificate of Manufacture issued by BMW, Munich Germany is included. I would also like for the new owner to have my Workshop Manual and Instruction Manual. I have kept the engine tuned, the oil changed and the bike stored inside where it is dry. There is a scuff mark on the chrome of the right front shock, other than that it is cosmetically beautiful. Even when it is cold out, just depress the carburetor priming buttons, count to 9 and give her one good kick and she will spring to life. Only 3,530 of these R60/2 bikes were sold between 1960 and 1969. They are the second rarest model for that time period. This bike is truly a joy to ride, own, and display. A fine example of meticulous beautiful restoration. May I encourage you to take hold of this opportunity to be the owner of the finest classic motorcycle ever engineered.
