Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a Retired Detectives' "Special Made" 1962 Ford Fairlane 500. This 1962 Ford Fairlane was specially made for a Retired Detective who was a good friend of my brother in the mid 1990's here in Columbus, Ohio. The retired detective hit the lottery in 1997 and sold this car to my brother in 1998. My brother and I drove it sparingly until his job transferred to Saginaw, Michigan where he took the car and it sat covered for several years. I went to Michigan and bought it from my brother and had it trailered back to Columbus in 2002. I drove it occasionally until the power steering hose busted while driving it to work one day. After having it towed home, I noticed that when pulling it in the driveway, the brakes were stiff (almost like locked up). A mechanic told me that the power steering unit was connected to the braking system. After searching weeks and finding the power steering hose, I had it replaced but when connected, the steering wheel stays locked up (The mechanic told me the power steering pump may be bad). He also changed the Power Steering Control Valve (the nut broke off the old one). After all that information, I wasn't about to have it towed to a Midas or Tuffy to have them tinkle with it. I really didn't trust them. The last time I drove it was around the block (slowly and carefully) and ultimately pressing real hard on the brakes to stop or slow down. I haven't driven it since 2005. I start it once a month just to hear it rumble (very loud). The car starts and shuts off without any hesitation. It has a 260 V8 with 116,946 original miles on it w/Dual Exhaust (I think some type of cherry bombs), AC (Not currently hook-up), air shocks (the left air shocks line has a small pin hole). The headlights, blinkers, cruise, spot-light, interior dash lights/lights, coach-light, wipers, heater, rear-defogger, all work... but NO RADIO. While it sits in the garage, I removed 4 of the moldings due to them being loose (from the rusted fasteners underneath). I have them in the back seat of the car. The first THREE pictures are from when the car was being driven. The following pictures are taken here in the garage. The Car does have some rust (not much). Much of the rust is from underneath the moldings and around/above the skirts. There is some rust in some of the tight spots (like above the side windows "Pictured") under the rubber molding in the doors where water or moisture could be trapped over the years. All the rubber molding around the trunk and doors should definitely be replaced. The left dual exhaust was bent and subsequently broken off when my brother turned around in someone's cul-de-sac and the grass was at an incline and backed into it. The floor board on the drivers side needs replacing and the front seat definitely needs upholstering. The back seats are fine except for the torn patch near the rear defogger. This car also has a steel (radio cover-CB Holder) below the A/C and looks like it can't be removed (looks pretty cool though). All the windows roll up and down smoothly, all doors close shut tightly and smoothly. As far as the engine, there's a lot of things it looks like to me in the engine compartment. All the wires and small boxes go to something but I'm not the mechanic. I've seen engines with barely anything in them (alternator, air compressor, engine block, distributor, master cylinder, belts, radiator, etc...) This looks like a bit more... I guess by it being specially made. If I can think of anything else, I'll add it in the coming days. This car was appraised for $8,500 in 1998 by ANPAC (American National Property and Casualty Companies). The NADA blue book has the Low Retail at: $2,214 - Average Retail at: $4,025 - High Retail at: $5,434 and these prices are for the basic 1962 Ford Fairlane 4 Door Sedan w/A/C and 4 Speed Transmission. Car needs very little to be restored back to the "Special Made" original condition. This is a Ford enthusiast, Ford mechanics dream. Thanks for looking. Please check my Ebay history; I have strived to maintain a 100% positive feedback rating over the years. I’m not an expert on the value or condition of vehicles, and therefore, my opinion of a vehicle may not be the same as yours. I suggest serious bidders come examine this Ford, or have someone come and inspect it to make sure you know what you are bidding on before you bid. Feel free to request as many other photos as needed. Also, inspection services with a detailed report are available through www.cars-on-line.com They will provide you with a very thorough inspection report. I’m not a dealer, this is just a hobby, so feel free to ask any questions and any inspection is always welcome. It's a good idea to get an estimate of the transport cost ahead of time and that can be obtained from www.autotransport.com, (zip code is 43147). Due to some recent scams involving some shady transporters, I will make sure that the transporter you select is the same company (person) who physically picks up the car. Also, I will take and send you photos of the transport rig, its license plate/driver and the car being loaded, including its securement and placement on or within the rig for your piece of mind. Should you have any questions about this vehicle, contact Luke @ (614-330-3567). Foreign bidders are always welcome! VEHICLE TERMS: The car is SOLD AS-IS, with no guarantee/warranty either expressed or implied. Successful bidder pays $300 down payment (PayPal is preferred) for the vehicle within 48 hours of bid close and should make arrangements to pick up the car within 2 weeks of auction close.
