Vehicle Detail
Listing for sale a 1982 Mercedes 300TD Turbo diesel with just shy of 214,000 miles.... Signal Red over Palomino Interior with the rare factory rear facing third row seat, and even rarer trailer hitch. Equipped with the legendary 617 turbo diesel which is known to go starship like mileage, and is easily adaptable to alternative fuels such as biodiesel. The car has had only 2 previous owners and has spent its entire life in Texas up until this summer. I've recently went to great expense to have this vehicle gone through to like new mechanical condition, and the previous owner did as well. Highlights include: Motor: Complete valve job with new timing chain, new turbo, new vacuum pump, injectors, and glow plugs. New drive and accessory belts. New block heater. Fresh oil change. (motor came from a donor '82 wagon with similar mileage) Transmission/drive train: Rebuilt in the early 90s. New flex discs in the driveshaft. New rear axle half shafts. Fresh transmission and differential service Suspension: Completely rebuilt front suspension, with new shocks, as well as new accumulators and a rebuilt leveling valve on the rear. Newer power steering gearbox. Cooling system/ AC: New radiator, water pump and fan clutch. New AC compressor and evaporator. Still has R12 refrigerant and blows ice cold. New block heater Braking/Tires: New pads and rotors all around with a fresh bleed. Micheline tires with less than 10,000 on them. At the dealer, this would add up to 10s of thousands of dollars worth of repairs. Its getting very hard to find wagons in this condition, and I doubt there's another one for sale in the country with this extensive of a service history. With the freshened up head and turbo, the car is downright fast for 617 standards. Cold starts are effortless, and the battery is less than a year old. The vacuum system, a common trouble point with these cars, is top notch as well. Everything from the shutoff valve, transmission shifting, center vent dash pods for cold air, and door locks (all run by vacuum) operate well. All of the electricals are in good order, with the exception of the cruise control. Most likely it is an amplifier issue, a very common problem among Mercedes of this vintage. The factory stereo was replaced with an aftermarket CD player, and I believe the speakers were updated as well. Cosmetically, this wagon stands out as well. The original Signal red paint still shines beautifully, with just the right amount of patina to have its original charm. Outside of normal scratches/dings imperfections, there are a few areas of light hazing on the paint. It is most noticeable on the right rear door, but is also barely noticeable on the front fenders. I've photographed the areas below, and as you can see it is very slight. Keep the car garaged/regularly waxed and it shouldn't be a growing issue. Being a life long Texas car, the body is factory solid. The body and jack points are completely free of rust. All the exterior window seals are in good shape, still reasonably pliable and free of cracks. I installed newer headlight doors to really make the nose pop. The interior is very nice. All the seats are free of tears or cracking, with the exception of one 1/2 inch poke hole in the second row. The armrest is torn, but a replacement is included with the sale. Thankfully the car is equipped with the tougher than steel MB-Tex upholstery rather than leather. The dash does have cracks as you would expect with a Southern car, and the wood has some cracks in the veneer. The center console has a very nice matching Zebrano storage box. The glass has a high quality window tint with no odd colorations of bubbling present. The windshield has a small crack on the far passenger side, which may grow, may not. Thankfully windshields are cheap enough, and I will include a new windshield seal should the next owner decide to replace it. Overall, the car shows very, very well, and gets alot of attention. Car comes with 4 keys, its original owner's manual, and a huge stack of service records. Since I understand the trepidation of purchasing a vehicle sight unseen, I've done my best to describe this car as thoroughly and accurately as possible. Personal inspections, test drives, e-mail questions, and phone calls are welcome. Feel free to call (316) 204-9433 any time for immediate communication, or I will try to answer emails properly. If you have low or negative feedback please contact me before the end of this listing. The Buy it now is $6950, and I have the car listed locally and could end the sale at any time. For shipping, I would recommend using Montaway auto transport. They seem to have the lowest rates I've seen, usually book trucks in a prompt manner, and are good at communicating. I am also happy to pick up anyone at the local Wichita airport as well. Photos are below. Thanks for looking.
