Vehicle Detail

1931 Cadillac V-12 Convertible Victoria, Greta Garbo Duesenberg Tribute Automotive historians around the globe generally agree that the early 1930’s was the epitome of fine Classic automotive design. It was the era of the original “Concours d’Elegance” with graceful bodies mounted on enormous chassis powered by sophisticated multi-cylindered engines. Of all the cars built in this era, the Duesenberg built for Greta Garbo was truly one of the most magnificent. Here we have a stunning Convertible Victoria designed to capture the splendor of the Greta Garbo Duesenberg. This exquisite car has been fashioned with a massive 1931 Cadillac V-12 long wheelbase chassis and an elegant restyled 1931 Auburn Salon body. Tailored to resemble the Garbo Duesenberg, it features a very rakish low windshield, sporty front opening doors and gorgeous teardrop shaped runningboards. At the rear, dual spares add length and visual appeal. Handsome Twilight head lamps show the way with spectacular French Marchal reflectors. You can signal your arrival with dual trumpet horns or siren. The front ensemble also includes a radiator stoneguard and a French inspired stainless steel tubular bumper. Ornaments surrounding the dual rear spares are a large tail lamp, license plate frame, stainless steel tubular bumperettes and a 1931 Cadillac accessory trunk. The new aluminum hood is 56" long. The teardrop shaped running boards and aluminum frame splash aprons are also new. The red and black paint is single stage PPG urethane. The chassis, front fenders, radiator shell, stone guard, wire wheels and trunk are 1931 Cadillac. The body, rear fenders and gas tank apron are 1931 Auburn Salon. Designed to be fully convertible, all the necessary parts have been remade for a functioning convertible top. Top assembly irons were patterned and duplicated off a 1931 Rollston bodied Convertible Victoria, landau bars are not needed. Original era rear window frame included. Cadillac V-12 bare block in car and spare Cadillac V-12 motor with good intake and exhaust manifolds, and distributor included. Other Cadillac chassis parts include transmission, steering column, gas tank, front splash apron and radiator. Or you might consider installing your own modern drive train. Body structure and rear spare mount bracket need gusseting, hood sides need louvers, and front seats need tracks. Door latches, glass and window regulators still in doors. An accessory spot lamp, and new door sill plates also included. The imposing 1931 Cadillac chassis is 140” wheelbase, with six wire wheels, riding on huge Lester 7:50 x 18 whitewalls. The large comfortable Auburn body and roll up windows will make it an ideal tour car. Have many other pictures of parts and body. Please ask and they will be forwarded. Thank you, emartel25 On Nov-11-10 at 17:56:17 PST, seller added the following information: Additional Information: Found the copies of the original Cadillac build sheets related to the chassis and the spare motor. Can email scans of build sheets, and photos of data plate and serial numbers on engines. The build sheet related to the chassis shows it’s a Cadillac Series 370 (V-12, 1931), Job No: 31159, (matching) Engine No. 1004844, and was shipped August 14, 1931 to Don Lee Inc. of Los Angeles, California. Don Lee was a famous Cadillac distributor and later broadcaster in California: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Lee_(broadcaster) The chassis was purchased from classic car body builder Harry Kennedy of Stuart, Florida in 1992. Mr. Kennedy was a very talented metal fabricator who built several classic and sports car bodies for several different makes including Duesenberg and the Miller Golden Submarine body. Mr. Kennedy was going to build a boattail speedster on the Cadillac chassis but figured he would never get to it. The chassis was incomplete when purchased from Mr. Kennedy. The spare motor, transmission, radiator, and several other parts were sourced elsewhere. They are believed to be correct but not guaranteed. There are still some parts missing on the chassis, e.g. the shocks, rear motor mounts, and some of the brake parts. The original motor in the car (Engine No. 1004844) that was described as a bare block is not exactly bare. In addition to the heads and valve covers are rocker assemblies, oil pan, crankshaft, and it also seems to have a camshaft. Also included are an additional pair of front springs, that came off a 1931 Cadillac Series 370 V-12 convertible coupe. The Auburn Salon body was purchased in the early 1990’s from Oregon. It had some surface rust where paint had peeled but no rust holes. The build sheet related to the spare motor, Engine No. 1301063, shows it’s a Cadillac Series 370-B (V-12, 1932), and was shipped March 23, 1932 to Greenlease Motor Car Co. in Kansas City, Mo. The siren is a Federal Sign and Signal model 66-G. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Signal_Corporation
