Hardtop Monterey S-55's built I've owned several full size 1963/64 Mercury cars but this is my first S-55. Took me a while to find a S-55 with all the options I wanted (power, etc.). This is a running project car and when I bought it, it was apparent it sat for a long time. Someone took the liberty of replacing the original high compression 390 with a rebuilt? 390 (or 352) out of a '69 or '68 car :( I am extremely sad to sell this car as this is my dream car, I've owned it for a little over a year and it has sat while for most of the time while I worked on it. I've come to terms that with other projects I have going on this car will never get the attention it deserves. I need the space. The most I've driven was around the block several times every few months to keep the blood flowing. The cash from this sale will go towards a new Harley. Work I've done to the car: Oil change Fuel and oil filter change Rebuilt Autolite 2100 2 bbl Carburetor at a reputable shop I frequent *NEW* Fuel Tank with sending unit and straps Rebuilt Power Brake Booster by a reputable shop that I frequent *New* front brake cylinders and lines (shoes and drums are good) Rebuilt Master cylinder with *new* line Rebuilt Starter by a buddy's shop Rebuilt Alternator *NEW* Interstate Battery *NEW* Battery Cables and Starter Solenoid *NEW* Distributor Cap and Voltage Regulator *NEW* Mallory 8mm Spark Plug Wires and a name brand premium Spark Plugs (can't remember). Recored Radiator prior to my purchase 15" wheels out of a 1992 Crown Victoria (I had to sacrifice the originals for another project), there is a 15" steel wheel for a spare in the trunk as well some hardware for the bumper jack and a couple of parts that I tracked down. Tires are fair. *NEW* Valve cover gaskets. *NEW* with NOS OR NORS taillight lenses (as needed) *NEW* Power Steering and Alternator Belts Paid all past due fees, transferred car into my name and it is currently under Non-Op with CA DMV I have receipts. This is a project car and although it runs, it will need additional work. I replaced the alternator and now the car won't start unless it's jumped. I probably installed it wrong but I've lost interest and time on troubleshooting. Prior to that the car would not start when warm. The brakes will need to be re-bled as there is no fluid going to the rear wheels. Right now I did some weird stuff with the way the booster installed so that the car stops with the front brakes. Coolant, power steering, trans and diff fluid and probably brake fluids will need to be flushed. Transmission began leaking after I had it sitting for almost a year, appears it is it is the pan gasket but it shifts smoothly with no slips or hesitations. Rear end does not leak and does not make any sort of weird noises. Engine runs strong, does not burn oil, knock or smoke. When I replaced the valve cover gaskets, everything underneath looked good. I wouldn't be surprised if the engine was rebuilt. It leaks a little bit of oil near a bolt from the valve cover from me not torque'ing correctly. The exhaust manifold gaskets will need to be replaced as there is a severe exhaust leak. Hoses all good. Body is fairly straight, only 1 major dent/ding is on the right rear fender near the pillar, that trim piece is also damaged. There are several rust spots through out the car, bottom of front fenders near the door, bottom of the door and bottom of rear fenders. Trunk lid and deck lid near the pillar and drip rails. There are several areas of surface rust, some ding dong drilled holes on the hood for locks. I don't have the key for the rear trunk so it's opened with a wire through a rust hole. There is only one rust spot on the floor boards and that is near the rear pass floor board. Every thing else is solid on the floor boards, trunk. Frame is also rust free. Carpet will need to be replaced as well as headliner, there are several holes. Rear seat and panels under windows are 99% perfect. The integrity of the door panels are also great, only discoloration. Kick panels great shape. Dash is fair with some discoloration and a few small cracks. Center console is in great shape, vinyl wise. There is pitting on the interior chrome. Exterior chrome has a good shine, the missing piece is included in the auction. Rear window works, other windows sometimes work, sometimes they don't. Mostly they don't. Interior lights need a few bulbs, instrument cluster lights don't work. The left rear lights stopped working. I haven't diagnosed the issue yet. All gauges work except oil and fuel. Fuel is because the wire female end is too big for the male end on the new fuel sending unit. Wipers work but they won't turn off so I plugged them under the dash. Radio doesn't work. Pretty much everything will need to have to be gone over. Power steering can be funky, I think it's because the way the the original power steering is intalled on the newer motor, the hose between the pump to the reservoir leaks. Glove box is in great shape as well as center console. Data Plate Info: Serial: 3Z67Z510637 Body: 65C Color: M Trim: 55 Date: 21L DSO: Blank Axle: 5 Trans 4 Pretty much is a running project in my opinion that can be made into a daily driver with some minor work, most of which I've done. That was my intention, get it reliable, do a good two tone primer and have something cool to cruise around in. If your're looking for a complete restoration of a rare car, I also think this is a good candidate considering it has rare options. Please take a close look at all 70+ photos and ask all questions prior to biddding. I am not a mechanic and I described the car to the best of my ability and I'm pretty sure I left a lot out so again, please ask questions and I strongly encourage you to inspect the car prior to bidding. Feel free to send me an e-mail or give me a call at 949-335-8787 to set an appointment to view the car. Reserve is low, surprisingly lower than what it should be for a rare car! Terms Your bid is to purchase the car, not to inspect it. You bid, you win, you pay. Car is sold as-is, with no written or implied warranty and car is sold with any known and unknown faults. A non-refundable deposit of $250 is due within 24 hrs of end of auction via Pay Pal. Balance is due within 7 days via PayPal, checks or money orders or cash in person.
