Vehicle Detail
Up for auction today is a documented Arizona Mustang Coupe. Purchased new on April 4th 1965 by Alice Joyce Finch this '65 was lucky enough to stay in the sunny & dry climate of Scottsdale for nearly all of its life. The late previous owner had stored the car in 1987 with what is believed to be only 66892 original miles on the odometer. There are several service records supporting the mileage (as well as the condition of the car). The car does come with the original owner's manual with warranty card. The original heater instructions that were wired to the heater controls are also with the manual! The records of prior work come with the car and are shown in the photos. After the previous owners passing the car was brought to Washington State where it has been garaged since. After 23 years of storage the car was just too much for the young woman who inherited it to get back into running condition. Most notably was the fuel system. The fuel in the tank had turned into a semi-solid jelly so the tank was replaced. The fuel lines were blown out and the fuel system was back in business! The points and condenser were suspect and being cheap & easy to replace, new units were installed. The brakes were completely shot and the system required all 4 new wheel cylinders, both front & rear brakes shoes, front brake hoses and a master cylinder. The brakes now work like new! The tires, while still having nearly 100% tread, were weather checked and I couldn't bring myself to trust them. All 4 were replaced with brand new MADE IN THE USA white-wall radials. I paid $100 more for the set just to get tires that were not made in China, Malaysia or Korea. If you like your job and our country I would recommend that you BUY AMERICAN!!! I thank Les Schwab Tires for being one of the few companies that offer USA made tires. They carry an excellent warranty to whomever purchases the car. Several invoices with the car catalog the work done to the car prior to its being placed into storage sometime in late 1987. These include: 1) New seat upholstery, carpet, headliner, kick panels, repainting door panels & quarters 3/18/87 2) Rebuilt transmission, new clutch + professional installation @ 60,484 miles 2/19/87 3) Rebuild Carburetor, new fuel pump 2/16/87 The car was repainted in the original white some time ago. I could not find a receipt so I do not know when it was done. The repaint has plenty of small chips and scratches. It presents fine, call it a 20 footer. The car is begging for a new paint job. Even an inexpensive paint job would make this car more than presentable for a sunny day driver or weekend special as the body is still in excellent condition. I do not see any signs of rust in the quarters, doors fenders, floors, frame rails, etc. I also do not see any signs of any previous collision damage in any of the panels. I looked the car over very closely and I did find a tiny bit of rust around a grommet in the trunk and a small spot under the battery box, otherwise I couldn't find any. This car was very lucky to have lived in Arizona! This car also has factory Air Conditioning. The system is still complete but will need a service prior to use. The underdash unit has its own fan switch & temp selector. The switches work smoothly and the fan works great. The engine bay seemed to have been home to some sort of feral cat or something as any exposed oil or grease was covered in some sort of animal hair. I steam cleaned the engine which in turn stripped a good deal of the factory orange paint from the valve cover and air cleaner. So, one thing turned to another and the whole engine compartment was cleaned and repainted in the factory finishes. The exhaust then looked a bit rusty, so I coated it with Rust-O-Leum. I managed to stop myself at that point. I have driven the car very few miles. It fires up easily and runs well. There is an exhaust leak at the manifold. The engine does not smoke, knock or rattle. The car also drives quite nicely, tracks straight. I guess what would you expect from a 66k mile car. Please keep in mind that this is a 45 year old car, with many of its original components. Of the many positives of this car, ease of repair is one of the largest positives. Nearly anyone with a desire can repair almost any component on this car with simple tools and a shop manual. If you are tired of paying over $100 per hour to repair your new car that only a trained professional dare touch than this could be the car for you. This car will also give you fuel economy on par with many late models AND it is cheaper to insure! Any Questions? Please call me at 425-308-0802. I work a late swing shift so 10am to 2pm work best for me but if you need to call another time please email me with your number and the best time to call. I will do my best to get back to you at that time. Call Mike at Discount Auto Transport, 888-671-9285, for the best transport prices and customer service. His website is www.discountautotransport.com. Please keep in mind this is a 1965 vehicle. Ford Motor Company's warranty expired about 42 or so years ago. This car is sold as-is. I will be happy to get you any photos you would need to help you make a decision in purchasing the car. If you would like to have it inspected I would be happy to make the car available at my house for inspection prior to auction end.
