Vehicle Detail
Dazzling original 1981 Oldsmobile Ninety Regency Coupe with 2,806 original miles. This gorgeous time capsule car was completed in Lansing, Michigan on June 16th,1981. The next day it was shipped North of the border and ultimately arrived at Wheaton Chev Olds Ltd. in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. The car was purchased by a local fireman who kept it until 1992 at which time he traded it (it had 1750 miles at the time) in on a Lexus at Taylor Motors Ltd. in Regina. I spoke to the salesman involved who is now retired and asked how it could be that the car had such low mileage at the time of the trade. He clearly remembered the details of the deal and his response was that the original owner simply enjoyed polishing and looking at the car more than he enjoyed driving it. I have the bill of sale from the transaction which documents the mileage. The second owner from whom I purchased the car told me he planned on driving it subsequent to the purchase in 1992 as he had already worn out two previous 98's. However he began driving his trucks more and more and accordingly he only added another 725 miles in the following 18 years. In May of this year I purchased it and drove it the final 300 miles to get it home and an additional 31 miles in the past 5 months. This is one of 740 Regency coupes that came to Canada in 1981 and one of only 23 that came with the rich, rare Pastel Sauterne exterior paint. The options include the following: -6 way power driver and passenger front seats -Tinted windows -power trunk lid -pulse windshield wipers -vinyl padded landau roof (gold 1/4 pad) -rear defrost -Tempmatic control air conditioning -litter container -illuminated passenger visor vanity -power door locks -body stripe -cruise control with resume -tilt steering -block heater -twilight sentinel -cornering lamps -am/fm radio with stereo cassette - oil, voltage and tempurature instrumentation - digital clock - power antenna -reminder package for low washer fluid, coolant and fuel. The motor is a 307 cid 4bbl V8 with 150hp. The transmission is a 4 speed automatic with overdrive. The car is in incredible original condition both inside and out. It runs and drives like a dream and has always been stored inside so accordingly rust is non existant. With the exception of some paint chips the size of pencil leads and one dime sized flake on the inner lip of the hood (not visible with the hood closed) the paint looks like it did in 1981 and retains the initial rich deep lustre. There are no leaks to my knowledge and my garage floor is always clean when I back the car out. All options work as they should with tthe exception of the a/c which needs a recharge. The trunk is as it was in the showroom however the lid will not stay open as the cylinders have lost the charge. The landau roof is soft with no cracks, the interior is flawless and the glass is unblemished. The motor is in completely original condition but is dusty and there is some deterioration in the hood liner. I have chosen not to address any of the very minor issues for the time being as I want to keep the car as close as possible to how it was when it left the assembly line. Also noteworthy is the fact that the rims and wire covers are not original. The first owner had them for sale in 1992 but I have not been able to track them down. Finally please note the odometer is in kilometers and not miles as this car was shipped and spent it's life in Canada. All mileage listed is accurate and based on the proper conversion from kilometers to miles Please feel free to contact me with any questions via EBAY or by phone at 306-975-0992. Pickup and shipping is the responsibility of the buyer or winning bidder.
