Vehicle Detail
I had a BRAT once. It went to the crusher before I could save it. It’s a real shame but that’s where most of these ended up. Someone had left this poor little BRAT to die in front of a junk yard and that’s where I found it. It wouldn’t even turn over but it was a real diamond in the rough. This was my second chance and there was no way I was going to let this one get away. It came with a title and key so I paid for it and towed it home. I converted the engine to run on propane and nursed it back to life. Great fuel but it just got too expensive. So I went back to gasoline but this BRAT still needed a lot of work. I had spare parts from another BRAT so I spent the summer replacing the entire power train. None of it was actually necessary but I wanted something I could depend on and not worry about it. Every fluid got flushed and all the maintenance is up to date. I tuned it up and got it running so nice I get a sheepish grin on my face every time I drive it. Easy on gas and the engineering on this whole vehicle is remarkable. Simple to work on and incredibly tough. The 4X4 works like magic and the capability will amaze you. This is definitely a Southwest car and comes with some flaws. Hardly any rust on the body but it does have a number of minor scrapes and dents. The worst is a vertical crease located behind the driver and you will see it in the picture. Any decent body shop will make short work of it. The jump seats were a joke in my opinion. I made them removable so you can do what you want with them. Drivers seat is starting to fall apart. The AC is out of commission and the tires are down to the wear bars. It could also use a new muffler. All the gauges work but the low fuel indicator is disabled. Antenna and cassette broke but AM/FM gets picked up. Just needs a good home more than anything else. Please don’t assume anything. You are bidding on a used automobile online and you should be careful anytime you make a big investment. I will be happy to answer your questions but you better ask them now before the auction ends. Walk away if the bid goes too high. I’m going to really miss my BRAT and I want this to be a positive experience for both of us. Also keep in mind this vehicle is carbureted and it does take some finesse to operate. Best part if you ask me! The BRAT will appeal only to a small group of individuals so do your homework first if you have any doubts. With that said, Go for it!
