Vehicle Detail
67 Beetle, Fix-Up, Restoration, or Resto-Mod Candidate Up for bid is a 67 Beetle restoration candidate. It’s not pretty, but it’s more solid than many of that year. The rockers / door sills / heat channels are intact. The floor has a half-dollar coin sized hole under the battery and is otherwise intact. The outer body has surface rust / pitting, but no rust-through. All glass is intact, but the windshield has fogging at the edges. There is a partial interior, but it needs major restoration. It was hit lightly in the nose sometime before I got it, but I have a new front apron for it. There’s a lot of work here, but there’s something to work with. There is no engine. When I got it there was one that ran (barely) which allowed me to test the transmission - it worked fine. It is an original 67 swing-axle (it has the mounts for the equalizer bar, a 67 only item). The equalizer bar is still attached to the body and turns freely, but the connecting links are missing. It has 5 lug hubs on back and 4 lug hubs on front (front axle beam has likely been replaced). It rolls fine with the current mismatched wheels. I have six 4 lug wheels with lug bolts and two 4 lug drums (for the rear) so that all can match. If I have time, I’ll change before sale, but not guaranteed. (Update - rear hubs are changed, now has 4 lug all around) The current tires hold air and are good for towing. New info, I went out to free the front wheels, which had stuck from sitting. I found out it has front disc brakes. The axle beam or spindles are likely from a 67 up Karmann Ghia. All 4 wheels now turn freely. I have the following new, used, or repro parts that go with it: 4 good used fenders in primer, 1966 style (covered headlights) 3 partial covered style headlight assemblies to match fenders, make 2 complete from the 3. 2 good used tail lights of the correct type and an extra lens and extra socket assembly. 2 new repro front parking light/turn signal assemblies. Brakes - all new lines, new master cylinder, new wheel cylinders, new shoes, and hardware for drum brakes, no parts for the discs. New repro running boards Good used wiper motor / linkage assembly (original runs but is stiff/slow) New front apron One new rear bumper mount section New ignition switch New fuel cap New molding clips Maine does not title vehicles over 15 years old. Sold with Bill of Sale only. Mileage is over 100,000 miles and unknown. Odometer shows 56,257. For an extra $75 you can have most parts for a rebuildable engine of the correct type (single port, non-doghouse. Let me know before payment, or ask for detail of what I have.) Note: This vehicle is not currently in running condition and does not meet safety or emission standards for operation on any public highway. It is being sold for parts or restoration.
