Vehicle Detail
Classic 1987 BMW 325i Convertible. Clear New Jersey Title. Last NJ Inspection Oct. 2007. Car has been parked since Spring 2008 because owner bought new car. Runs and drives! Had a rebuilt engine installed about 20,000 miles ago according to prior owner. Clutch was also replaced. Starts right up and runs smooth and strong. No smoke. Shifts well in all gears. Front end seems tight from my test drive. Brake lining light on. Brakes work but a little weak. Can be carefully driven. Has a half tank of gas. Battery is ok. Needs one power window switch. Missing cover under dash below steering wheel. All glass is good. One broken wiper blade. Black cloth top is in decent shape. All seats are ruff, worn, torn. Interior is musty like most convertibles that have been sitting. AC not cold. Needs a little bodywork. See pics. Tires are decent. Rims are nice. Has spare. May be flat or low on air. Top appears to be manually operated. Missing a few exterior side trim moldings. Exhaust is quite. No major rot. One broken fog light. Dents in front fender wheel well openings from child with plier. Small bend in front of hood lip. See pics. Headlights and blower motor work. Dash pad looks good. Door panels are decent. Mainly needs seats front and back. That was the extent of my testing. All and all this car has very good potential to be fixed up. I buy and sell cars on the side. I have no time to fix this one up for a greater profit. Selling "As is where is. On Oct-12-10 at 09:09:24 PDT, seller added the following information: I've added additional pics. There is a crack in the dash pad. See pic of inspection sticker. Tires are near new. Nice Dunlops. Rims are real nice. Hard to photograph underside. But like most BMW's it's well undercoated and looks good from what I can see. The engine long block was replaced by a professional BMW Euro mechanic shop. So you don't have to worry about a timing belt or a clutch for a long time. Minor bodywork. Worst spot is RF Fender dogleg. Trunk solid. One fray on top see pic. Rear window looks like no fogging, just needs cleaning. Top was likely replaced as it's in nice shape. Front spoiler looks like no cracks, just needs repainting and remounting. Hanging down a little. Bumpers can be polished and clear coated. I've done it. Several missing moldings. Get at junk yard. Main issues are seats and I'm guessing front brake pads. As brakes work, just weak stopping force and the lining light is on. Blower motor works so you'll have heat. AC likely needs charging. Little bend in hood lip. See pic. Easy fix. Lower inside door seams nice. All windows work, but one window switch in console is needed. Use Black 3M Rubberized Undercoat to restore Rocker Panel Finish. Very restorable car. First Year BMW Conv! BMW says these get 22.5 MPG. A Real Classic! Call if you have more questions. Happy Bidding! On Oct-12-10 at 09:45:29 PDT, seller added the following information: P.S. It's a 5 speed Manual Transmission! On Oct-17-10 at 11:48:54 PDT, seller added the following information: Here's a pic of the cat. The whole exhaust is solid and well mounted. Not loose at all. Looks all original to me. I looked over the whole underside. It's in great shape. One rust blister you can see above the 02 sensor in the pic I just posted. Also the oil in it looks real clean on the stick and I looked inside the oil fill cap. This engine looks brand new clean inside. Oh, the hood latch lever handle is broken. Still works, but add this to the repair list. I vacuumed out the interior and trunk. Sunny day here in NJ so I have the doors open to air out the musty smell from sitting parked for 2 years. Typical convertible smell. Just the way cloth tops smell. Like canvas. Car starts right up. Interstate battery is holding a charge fine. No smoke. Runs GREAT! But like I said, the brakes are weak. They WORK! Likely the front pads are down to it as it's semi weak stopping force. If you drive it home, just be careful. They are not that weak that it doesn't stop. Oh, and the parking brake works. The paint on the car will wax up good. Just needs spot repairs as noted and in the pics. Top is not faded at all. Hood insulator is good. All the glass is great. That's all I can think of. Doing my best here to present everything I's want to know if I was bidding on it without seeing it in person.
