Vehicle Detail

1965 Plymouth Fury III My Grandfather has restored this car and had intended to keep it as a weekend driver. He's since decided to let it go as he no longer has room to store it. The car was originally from Kansas and was in great shape before restoration. There was hardly any rust, and almost all of the original exterior trim pieces were reused. The odometer shows 82,572 miles and we believe this to be actual. Please take a look at the specific vehicle description below, and feel free to email with any questions that you may have. Engine/Drivetrain- This Fury has a 318 Polyshperical head "A" engine with an automatic transmission, factory A/C (converted to R134), and a 2 barrel carburetor. As seen in the pictures, the engine has been repainted, as well as the engine bay and miscellaneous components. All belts and hoses have also been replaced. The engine was not rebuilt during the restoration, but runs very well. The air conditioning and heating systems work as they should. The only problem is that after a week or so of not being started a small puff of smoke will come out of the exhaust when the car is first started. This generally indicates slightly worn valve seals. This only occurs after the car has been sitting without being started for quite some time, and then doesn't occur again on subsequent starts. The transmission shifts smoothly and has no known problems. All of the running gear is factory for this year, make, and model. The 2bbl. carburetor has recently been rebuilt, and has great throttle response. Suspension/Brakes/Steering- All suspension components are solid and the shocks are new. The front and rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders have all been replaced, and a remanufactured master cylinder has been installed. I would consider the power steering to be solid for the year and design of the system. Dodges of this era have been known to have free steering. Body/Exterior- As mentioned the car was in very good shape prior to restoration. The only bit of rust was behind the rear wheel on both sides. These panels are not available in the aftermarket, so metal panels were made and welded into place. There is a small amount of body filler near this area. There were also a few places where poly putty was used to fill in small dings or nicks. Otherwise the car was very clean and straight. Nason (Dupont owned) brand base coat/clear coat paint and 2K Urethane primer was used on the car. I managed an auto parts store for more than 8 years and sold more Nason product than any other. They have a very nice line of primers, paints, and clear coats. The paint color is not original, but is a very nice shade of white. The paint code used is Dupont number F2702. There are two small areas of concern that are worth mentioning. The inside of the rain channel above the windows is not totally smooth. I've taken a picture of the area. This isn't a huge deal, but it's not 100% perfect. There is also a small spot about the size of a penny near the body line behind the passenger side door. It just appears as though the transition from body line to the vertical door line is not perfect. This is a very small area that is barely noticeable. I only saw it because I was on the ground looking at the underside of the car. Otherwise the paint looks very nice. All of the exterior trim pieces are original. The pieces have been removed, cleaned and buffed, and reinstalled. As seen in the photos some of the pieces have small dings or dents. The driver's side vertical trim piece does have some scratches. The side moldings also have areas that have chipped or missing paint. The front grille emblem is also slightly faded. Underside- As seen in the photos the complete underside of the car and almost every visible bolt has been disassembled and painted. A lot of time has been invested in making the underside look as good as the exterior of the car. Electrical- With the exception of two small issues, all of the electrical components on this Fury work as they should. The OEM radio is still installed in the car, and it does not work. The temperature gauge also does not work. The sending unit has been changed a couple of times to ensure that it's not the problem. My Grandfather believes the problem is the gauge in the dash. He's replaced it once, but the replacement looked to be in worse shape, and he was unsure if it worked. It was also recently noticed that the windshield washer pump does not work. We were unaware of this until the middle of the auction so we haven't had a chance to troubleshoot this. Interior- Some of the interior components are new and some are still the originals. The rear seat and door panels are original. The front seat has been professionally reupholstered, and the headliner has been replaced. The carpet was also replaced. All of the dash knobs and components work as they should (with the exception of the radio, as mentioned). The passenger side metal portion of the dash has a small amount of orange peel. Otherwise, the interior is in great shape. Tires/Wheels- The tires and wheels have less than 100 miles on them. The wheels are chrome plated American Racing brand. The tires are the Hankook Mileage Plus series. The size is P215/75/R15. Quite a bit of money was spent recently on this set. They really make the car stand out in a crowd. Exhaust- This Fury has dual exhaust that is near new. It has two Goerlich's Xlerator aluminized steel all welded mufflers with chrome plated tips. I would consider the sound almost perfect. It has a throaty muscle car, Flowmaster sound, but it's not at all too loud. Goerlich describes it as a deep mellow tone without unwanted cabin noise. I'd say they're dead-on. Title/Registration- This car does have a valid title and is currently registered. The VIN plate was lost during the restoration (it mounts to the driver's side lower "A" pillar). The DOT was then called to complete an inspection to document the situation. The Iowa DOT verified the confidential VIN and issued a new Iowa VIN for the car. The new VIN is 5232433452. Due to the lost plate a bonded title was obtained. This was completed in October of 2008. We're fully aware that this situation will make most buyers uneasy. If you have any questions concerning the title feel free to ask. My Grandfather will be more than happy to show the car and title documentation to any prospective buyer prior to the end of the auction. A copy of the inspection form can also be provided upon request. This is a really nice, solid Plymouth Fury III. A lot of time and money has been spent to restore this car. As noted, the engine compartment, trunk, wheel wells, suspension, and underbody have all been restored and painted. The car starts, runs, and drives well. I wouldn't be afraid to take it on a long trip. It could also be taken to your local car show and fit right in. My Grandfather has over $12,500 invested in this car, and this is only counting about half of his labor. In today's economy we both realize that getting your money back on a restoration is not likely. He'll sacrifice $8,800.00 as he needs it to be gone. The Fury will need to be picked up in the city of Oskaloosa, IA (zip code 52577). As mentioned, my Grandfather will be more than happy to show this car to any prospective buyers prior to the end of the auction. I also have 5 or 6 more photos that can be forwarded since eBay only allows 24 total. My Grandfather will also be more than happy to discuss the car and build process over the phone if necessary. He can also assist the shipping company of your choice with the loading/pickup of the car. Please feel free to email with any questions that you may have. Thanks for bidding!
