Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1988 Fiero with a 200 hp 4.3L V6 and 4T60 4 speed automatic transmission. The purpose of this swap was for a fun commuter... something with some power, but would not break the bank from a fuel mileage stand point. I have used it for daily commuting since May of 2008 and put about 20K miles on this swap, so it is well sorted and daily driver reliable. Compared to the 97hp stock 4cyl or the 140hp stock 2.8V6, this 200 hp 4.3L V6 really livens things up. The 4 speed auto helps keep the cruise RPM down for good mileage. For my daily commute the car normally averages between 24-28 mpg and out on the open interstate its best has been 32mpg (from KY to AL) but routinely sees 30 mpg. It wasn't built for a speed racer or the 1/4 mile. To improve its 1/4 mile performance, just swap in a higher stall converter with a 3.33 final drive to really wake it up. This Fiero started life as a 4cyl/5 speed base model coupe and had the following upgrades performed: ** Stock used 200hp 1994 4.3L CPI V6 engine and used 4T60 4 speed automatic transmission profesionally installed in May of 2008 with all new gaskets, seals and injector spider. ** Factory 4.3 CPI GM ECM was used in the swap and is free of any check engine codes and the ALDL connector works to pull code or datalog engine sensor data. ** Zumwalt style SBC adapter plate, custom 4.3L flex plate with nissan ring gear, new nissan 280Z starter. ** Custom harmonic balancer and accessory brackets designed to reuse the 88 4cyl alternator, AC compressor and serpentine belt while incorporating a belt tensioner. ** Four custom poly mounts ensure the engine/transmission assembly remains tight to the chassis with minimal flex. ** New 1989 Pontiac 6000 axles for the 4 speed auto conversion. ** Exhaust custom fabricated from mandrel bends and a flowtech afterburner 3" in dual 2 1/2" out muffler (there is no catalytic converter). ** Custom engine harness routed for a clean looking install and retains the factory 4.3L ecm. ** 88 Formula rear sway bar added. ** All guages upgraded to GT specs: 120 mph speedometer, 6000 rpm tach, and the auxillary guages installed. ** AC system upgraded to 134A (system has a leak - holds charge for about 1 month). ** Rear spoiler from a 3rd gen firebird installed. ** 2840 lbs with a full tank of gas with 59% of the weight is on the rear drive wheels. Here is a video of the engine running after the swap was originally completed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wgm5S2dXbs The rest of the car is essentially stock 88 with parts replaced as needed. The 88's were the last year of the Fiero with significant revisions in the brakes and suspension designs to improve overall performance. The Fiero needs paint, the interior shows some wear and tear and the windshield is cracked... typical items for a high mileage daily driver fiero. Chassis is in pretty good shape with pictures of the two trunk walls shown. The passenger side has a couple or rust areas, but the driver side has none. Since the 4.3 and the Small Block Chevy V8 share bell housing patterns and accessory drives, many of the custom parts for this swap could be reused if you wanted to swap out the 4.3 for a SBC V8. The custom parts needed to perform this swap cost more than I am asking for the entire swapped fiero, just looking to move on to my next swap (4.3CPI/F40 6 speed manual) and let someone else enjoy this Fiero. If you are looking for a fun driving and unique car that can be had relatively cheap, this might be something you would be interested in. Payment due within 7 days of auction win. No reserve, so bid to win!
