Vehicle Detail

1975 Triumph TR6 in fantastic condition. 48k original miles. Overdrive. Weber carburetors. Restoration receipts totaling over $28,000. A proper, documented provenance: all owners known, all titles in hand. Never even seen a drop of rain since restoration! This is my third TR6, and the best I’ve ever had. One of the best I’ve ever seen. The British Car Bug keeps biting though, and I’m onto the next project. Time for the Six to find a new stable. Below is a summary of what has been done in restoring the car. Plenty has been omitted in the name of brevity. (Do you really want to hear about cadmium bolts, etc.?) Drivetrain The engine was professionally rebuilt, targeting a performance-oriented street car. The compression was raised to 10.5:1 and a PAECO Superlift camshaft installed. Appropriate new pistons, rocker, valves, etc. were also installed. As were a new timing chain, oil pump, and water pump. The engine revs freely and smoothly without the usual TR6 valve chatter.Spin-on oil filter adapter to prevent bottom-end engine damage during startup. Emissions equipment bypassed but in place for that accurate 1975 look. I’ve been running only non-ethanol 93 octane gasoline.Feeding the tuned engine are a pair of Weber DGV downdraft carburetors. While I love SU carbs, I’m no great fan of the Zenith Strombergs. The Webers give better fuel delivery and reliability. Once set, they don’t require the pampering of the Strombergs.Exhaust is through headers and stainless exhaust. No worries about pipes rusting away. The resulting sound is inimitable: the straight-six burbling and resonating. The transmission was also professionally rebuilt. It has a great tight, notchy feel with positive engagement. All synchros work perfectly. No grinds on the way up or (especially!) on the way down. Overdrive on the third and fourth gears clicks right in with a flick of the column switch. Great for reducing engine wear at interstate speeds. 2300 rpm at 70 mph. Might as well do the clutch at the same time, right? New clutch, clutch master cylinder, lines, slave cylinder, and throw out bearing. Clutch is firm without being overbearing, and engages near the top of travel.Gear reduction starter for “added lightness.” Not to mention it uses less amperage and starts the engine quicker. A great upgrade.New differential mounts and reinforcing plate. New front and rear wheel bearings. Rebuilt rear hubs. All U-joints replaced. Suspension Koni front shocks. Rebuilt, stiffer, rear lever shocks. Front and rear anti-sway bars on urethane bushings.Brand new Yokohama Avid TRZ tires. Size 205/70 R15. A month old and maybe 200 miles on them. Rebuilt front brake calipers. New lines and wheel cylinders. Brakes converted to Dot 5 fluid. No more concerns about brake fluid eating away beautiful paint. Body The Six received the full treatment: The body was stripped to bare metal, and any rust was removed and replaced with new metal panels (not filler!). All panels were smoothed- no waves looking down the sides. After primer, the car was sprayed New English White in several coats each of base coat and clear coat. The car was then thoroughly wet sanded. There is no orange peel or any fish-eyes to be found. Look at the reflections in some of the pictures. Fantastic paint.Panels replaced include both floors, right front fender, door skins, and inner and outer sills.Windshield frame and rear valence painted correct “semi-flat” black. The old windshield, though intact, had a couple small rock chips, and a great deal of pitting. A new, stronger windshield has been installed. Electrical System All electrical components operating as intended.Ignition converted from points to Pertronix electronic ignition. For my money, this is always the best upgrade for a classic car. So accurate and reliable.Seat sensors disabled per Masters’ instructions in TR6 Electrical Handbook. No more belting in the groceries. All gauges work great. Very strong oil pressure. Engine runs cool. Alternator charges without issue.Period correct Sanyo AM/FM cassette stereo installed. New Boston Acoustics speakers in correct location (no incorrect speakers cut into panels, etc.). Stereo not connected. Wiring is all there, but I only wanted it for the period-accurate look. Exterior Trim Most impressively, the Six still wears its original convertible top with the reflector strip and diamond pattern inside. The top has no rips and is in great condition. The windows are clear and the rear zips out for better ventilation and safer storage.Top stows neatly under new black hood cover.New rubber trim everywhere: around doors (with correct fuzzy trim attached), trunk and engine. Even new rubber and chrome around and under the toughest area- the windshield.Excellent chrome: all new bumpers, glamour rings, bullet mirror, door handles, and Lemans fuel filler cap. Luggage rack chrome aging a bit, but still gleams nicely.New front spoiler. Deep black color makes for a remarkable contrast with the New English White paint. Interior Trim The interior of the car is almost completely replaced. And it’s fabulous.New, accurately reproduced seat covers AND foam inserts. Seats are now well-bolstered for vigorous driving. No rips, cuts, etc.New Wilton wool carpets from The Roadster Factory. Thick. Black. Deep.New trim panels all around: doors, rear, doglegs, B-pillar supports, etc.New burled wood dash. Looks stunning. It’s always the first thing about which people comment.New pull knobs. All dash pads and dash support in excellent condition. Cardboard transmission tunnel covers now replaced with heavy gauge plastic. (No more oily carpets!) A fantastic specimen of arguably the last great Triumph. Drive it anywhere. (Upcoming Vintage Triumph Register convention on Jekyll Island, maybe?) I drive this car because it is a pleasure to drive. It’s a pleasure first because it is a Triumph TR6. The TR6 has a wonderful independent suspension for both spirited and relaxed driving. The Six has ample leg room for all. (Try getting this in an MG or a Jaguar!) This particular Six has wonderful seats that support the torso during hard driving. The engine is strong and smooth, coupled with a sonorous, throaty exhaust note. The steering is firm and responsive, with slight understeer at acceleration. The brakes are smooth and straight; no vibrations or pulls. The transmission shifts quickly under a strong clutch and the gears move positively into place- no grinding and no guesswork. Due to the suspension upgrades the car has little body roll. Drive hard into a corner, set the body, cross the apex, and smoothly accelerate through. The modifications to the car reflect my passion: experiencing classic roadsters as they were meant to be experienced - on the road. Meanwhile, for more information, please visit my TR6 website with many more photos of the restoration, and a recent video of the car in action on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Thanks for looking. The winning bidder will need to provide a $500.00 deposit within 2 business days, with the balance being paid within 5 business days of the close of the auction. All financial transactions will need to be completed before the buyer takes delivery of the car. Transportation or delivery from its current garage will need to be arranged and paid for by the buyer. I will be happy to work with your shipper if needed. A note about my username: I am now consolidating all my ebay motors activity to this username. While the username “luddned” has little feedback, rest assured I am a positive-feedback user. Please see my feedback under a different username, “petersfam1”, where I have sold another Triumph TR6 and a Range Rover. Above all, please feel free to call or email with any questions. I would prefer to speak with all bidders, if you are so inclined. Straightforward communication usually leads to the best, most trustworthy relationship for both parties.
