Vehicle Detail

1961 Triumph TR3A. A very well preserved Southwestern survivor. Unrestored, unmolested and incredibly original. This car was delivered new to CalSales and thought to be in New Mexico all it's life. Looks to have been repainted once (in the Johnson Administration?). It may have been changed from white to red. Don't let the pictures fool you, they make the paint look much better than it actually is. But if you want patina, it's got that in spades. Put in storage in the 1970's and recommissioned in 2005. When put into storage the carpets were removed to save the floorboards - That part worked. Unfortunately the carpets were put into the trunk and that did cause the trunk floor to rust. Not bad, but it's there. The trunk floor has been since treated with POR-15. It is still relatively solid and intact. That is the ONLY rust on the car. Floors are solid and original as are the rockers, fenders and everything else. No evidence of collision damage or panel replacement anywhere. Panel fit and gaps are absolutely correct. May have been re-upholstered, but maybe not, it's hard to tell. Chrome, glass and brightwork are nice. Lights, gauges, turn-signals, horn and heater are all in working order. Shows 01881 miles and although the speedometer doesn't work, I would guess that 101,000 may be near correct. I listed the car as a 1961 since that is the likely year of production. It is however, titled as a '62 because that was the year it was sold new. Includes a factory steel hardtop (not pictured - white, missing rear window), tonneau cover (black, small tear), top boot (white), newer side curtains in excellent condition and a new (never installed) softtop. Has incorrect rubber floor mats and tunnel has been done in Dyna-Mat as seen in the pictures. As said previously, most of the carpets rotted in the trunk, and they were thrown away. Original (and very straight) front bumper [still has Sandia Labs parking sticker] not currently installed on the car, nor are the top bows or wiper motor but all is included. New brakes, fresh fluids and major tune up within the last 3000 miles. It's still on the old bias-ply Dyna-Sport tires (in excellent condition). Also has the hand crank. This car is a very solid driver. Some of you may have seen it cruising around Topkea a couple weeks ago during the Kastner Cup race - we used it as the hotel shuttle. I could go on and on with pages of details but you are going to ask questions anyway. Please feel free to ask away. I will respond promptly and will post all questions and answers. International bidders are welcome and I can arrange truck transport as well as international shipping. Thanks for looking and happy bidding! On Sep-19-10 at 19:29:41 PDT, seller added the following information: OK... I'm surprised with the slow bidding but I want to get it sold. The reserve has been lowered by $1000. Interesting to me that about half the questions and bids have been from Europe. Is a virgin TR so common in the US as to not be worthy? I doubt it. To expand on the description, I will add that the battery box is solid, the seat pans are solid and the seat tracks still move freely. The paint is so old and thin that there can't really be anything hidden underneath. All the fittings and bright-work are original, nice, and correct. I think it would be a shame for someone to "over-restore" this car. As they say - they're only original once! On Sep-20-10 at 15:27:04 PDT, seller added the following information: With the recent activity and realistic bids I am removing the reserve with the next bid. It is going to sell! E-Bay member 'spaciale' asked for additional pictures and I have now posted them on the listing for all to view. The interior pics are with the rubber mats and seat bottoms removed. The under-side pics really don't show much but dirt and crust. But... the visible fluid leaks pretty much prove that it's British, it's original and has lube in it - otherwise it wouldn't leak. The last pic shows the hardtop [missing window], new soft top, top bows, side curtains, front bumper, etc. Still time to answer more questions, so ask away. Thanks for looking and Happy Bidding!
