Vehicle Detail

Up for auction today is a fully restored 1969 Mustang Mach 1. Over $60k has been spent on this car, not including the bulk of the labor. There is a lot of information in the ad, I am sure I am missing something. Please feel free to email or call me to discuss, my number is listed below. Please read the entire ad before asking questions as most of the info should be in the ad. This is not your average blow-n-glow eBay special. I have many more photos available for the car. If there are any you need please let me know. This is not a $25k car. This is a S-Code 390 Big Block car originally equipped with a 4 Speed, 3.25 Traction-Loc, Power Steering and Power Disc Brakes. The factory color is Champagne Gold Metallic and is a very striking color. Mach 1’s seem to come in two flavors, Candy Apple Red or Acapulco Blue (take a look here on eBay). It is refreshing to see a horse of a different color. $15k was spent on the paint and body work on the car. The car was media blasted, top and bottom. The entire body was painted including the interior of the car in places normally left bare by Ford. The cowl, roof, floors and undersides of the fenders all wear a healthy coat of 2-stage Gold. The car was re-assembled using all AMK fasteners. The body is very straight and the paint is show quality. The passenger mirror was scratched during assembly...grrr...it is at the paint show being repaired. I will be done this week and installed on the car prior to it being shipped. The undercarriage was completely painted in POR15 for an extremely durable, life-time finish that encapsulates the metal preventing rust from ever being an issue. The chrome trim on the car is either new or reconditioned original. New marker lights, back up lights, bumpers, door handles, grill emblem, quarter medallions, hood scoop emblems, hood scoop grill, hood & grill moldings, rocker moldings, quarter window verticals and more. The stainless window moldings are originals that have been highly polished and look incredible. Simply too much to list, take a look at the photos. All weather-strip was replaced as well. A new windshield was installed. All side and back glass is original and in good condition. The interior was completely restored as well. The seats were completely disassembled, painted and re-assembled using new burlap, heavy duty listings, seat buns and upholstery. The door panels, headliner, sail panels, dash pad, carpet, package tray, etc are all new. The dash clusters were disassembled, cleaned and polished. The tachometer works nicely. The 390 has been professionally rebuilt with the correct cylinder heads, intake manifold and restored carburetor. A slightly larger cam was used, the car still has a smooth idle, just better cam technology. The carburetor is a rare piece, purchased from Pony Carburetors for $629. The only area the engine has been significantly upgraded is in the exhaust department. The S-code 390s had perhaps the most restrictive exhaust manifolds ever cast by Ford. They had an exit roughly the same size as a 289 2 barrel! So…a set of Ford Powertrain Application headers were used. They are a Tri-Y design with extra thick flanges and a ball-socket collector, so no leaky collector gaskets and great flow. The headers are coated in a ceramic gray for what should be a life-time of good looks and great performance. The exhaust is brand new done in 2 ½” with chambered mufflers. The exhaust was built and installed by Clark’s Performance, one of the highest quality exhaust shops anywhere. The engine runs excellent and produces excellent torque worthy of a big block muscle car. The cooling system is new as well. The radiator and heater core are new. All hoses are reproductions. Under the dash even the heater box is brand new. The 4 Speed is the correct Toploader RUG M3 transmission. It was completely rebuilt for this restoration. A brand new Hurst Competition Plus shifter works perfectly with crisp, positive shifts. Every piece of the clutch linkage has been replaced. The rear differential is a correctly coded for the car 9”, fitted with a 3.25 Traction-Loc (posi). The unit was also professionally rebuilt. The housing was stripped and painted. New bearings installed, etc. The wiring is one of the few things on the car that has not been completely replaced. The wiring was still in good shape so it was cleaned, inspected and re-used. The alternator and voltage regulator were replaced with a Marti Autoworks units complete with correct stamps. The battery cables are also high quality, exact reproductions. The battery, battery box and hold down are also all new. The steering on the car consists of a new Flaming river steering box, control valve and cylinder. The hoses and bushings are all new too. Every tie rod, idler arm, ball joint, bushing, etc have all been replaced. The rear springs are 5 leaf and the fronts are a heavy duty 1” lowering spring. The rear springs are also 1" lowering and will require some time/use to wear in, there is less than 1 mile on the car since completion. The rear of the car should settle about 1 1/2" lower than it currently sits. The front sway bar is a full 1” with urethane bushings. These cars were known for being hard on the front shock towers. Big block cars received bracing that helped, but didn’t quite go as far as was needed. An ‘Export-Brace’ was added along with a ‘Monte Carlo’ bar. These added braces help keep the shock towers aligned correctly preserving the cars structural integrity. The car drives better than it did new! The brakes have been completely gone through. The only original parts on the car are the proportioning valve and brake pedal! All new fluid lines, hoses, rotors, calipers, drums, shoes, springs, wheel cylinders, master cylinder, brake booster, nuts and bolts. The brakes work excellent, just as you would expect with a brand new system. The wheels are Magnum 500’s made here in the USA at Specialty Wheels. The fronts are 15x7 and the rears are 15x8. The plating is excellent, done here in the USA. The tires are BF Goodrich Radial T/A’s with 225 60 15’s in the front and 255 60 15’s in the rear. All brand new for the build. Again, I am sure I am missing something obvious. Please feel free to email me with any questions you may have. I can also be reached at 425-308-0802. Please note that I am located on the West Coast, so I am on Pacific Time. I work a late shift, so please do not call before 10am Pacific!!! I am typically available until 9pm. Again, I have a lot of photos and can take any specific ones you may need. I will consider trades, but please be reasonable. If you want to trade something, YOU will need to pay to have BOTH cars shipped. I am mostly interested in Ford Muscle Cars. Preferably nice but will consider projects and even Mopar or GM Muscle Cars. I am not interested in motorcycles. For Transport call Mike at Discount Auto Transport, 888-671-9285.
