Vehicle Detail
This is a 1967 Rambler American 2 dr sedan. I purchased the car three years ago. It is a documented 72,000 mile car. I bought it with the idea of making a Scrambler clone out of it before I realized that all Scramblers were hardtops. The car had been parked in 1983 because of a ruptured fuel tank. Since I couldn't find a new fuel tank I fitted the car with a 1965 Nova tank and sending unit. Once I got the car running it ran so well that I decided not to do an engine swap. The car still has the all origonal drive train which is a 199 cid straight six, three speed manual transmission that shifts on the column and origonal rear end. This is a manual brake, manual steering car. This car started out two tone- green with a parchment painted top. The paint was shot as was the interior. It had a small rust spot behind the rear wheel on the drivers side and a smaller spot in front of the same wheel. I welded in new sheet metal in both places. The rest of the body is origonal. I painted the car myself and Obviously I am no expert but the paint turned out pretty good for a garage job. It could use a buffing if you want it to look nicer. It has three coats of clear on it so there should be plenty of paint. The bumpers were rechromed by Tri city Plating in Tenn. I replaced all the side door and window weatherstripping with new from American Parts Depot. On to the Interior- I replaced the passenger side front floor pan- It had rusted out due to a leaking heater core. I had the complete interior redone by Grants in Roanoke, Incuding seat covers, door panels, headliner and carpet. All the factory gauges except for fuel are working, Heater controls and dash lights are working. Mechanically, I have been through the whole car. Hoses, brakes, exhaust, distributor, heater core, shocks, tires, master cyl, ect. This is a daily driver. I have personally driven the car on several trips of over four hundred miles round trip. The car is Virginia safety inspected. Upgrades incude a 65 amp alternator and regulator, An extra fuse block so that the origonal wiring wasnt compromized. A hand built console that contains a 1969 Nova instrument cluster and a AM/FM cd player that is mp3 compatible, speakers and a power port. Everything that I added to this car could be taken off easily if someone wanted an origonal vehicle. Detractions- Everything mechanical has faults- I am not fond of the factory vacume wipers on this car. There is a little clouding at the bottom of the front windshield and the front windshield leaks in heavy rains. The drivers side door lock has stopped working. If you want something unusual at a bargain price this is the car for you. I may be able to deliver east of the Mississippi for an extra fee.
