Vehicle Detail
The documented history of a very special and spoiled ZR1 Quasar Blue Metallic 1992 (#279) ZR-1 with black interior, the ZR1 is delivered new to Malcolm Konner Chevrolet, Paramus, NJ, the window sticker is $66,818 (it has dual tops), the original owner keeps the ZR1 for about a year, with the ZR1 hype now worn off it ends up at Buds Chevrolet in St. Mary’s, Ohio 06-29-93 Bob M purchases the ZR1 from Buds Chevrolet for $43,261, Bob M will be the first of four owners who will treat the ZR1 with the respect that the “King” deserves _ the ZR1 has 4,901 miles on it 06-11-97 Bob M installs a new set of Eagle GS-C tires at cost of $1,392, the first set of tires makes it 13,000 miles and 5 years, not bad, Bob M and the ZR1 are having fun _ the ZR1 has 13,500 miles on it 08-28-97 Bob M takes the ZR1 to Doug Rippie Motorsports (DRM), they install 4.09 gears, a Borla exhaust system, ceramic coated “off road” headers, coil over shocks, a DRM prom, a modified air cleaner lid and K&N filter, and black Grand Sport calipers, DRM also performs a general tune up, total cost is $8,177, Bob M has taken the ZR1 to the next level _ the ZR1 has 20,351 miles on it 12-23-98 Sometime in the fall of 1998 it looks like Andy N has made Bob a deal that is too good to pass on and Bob M sells the ZR1 to Andy N, in December Andy N takes the car to DRM to replace the alternator and gets some general tune-up work done at a cost of $738 _ the ZR1 has 28,092 miles on it 07-04-00, 18 months after Andy N gives the ZR1 It’s first tune it gets another, Andy N takes the ZR1 to Haibeck Automotive (the ZR1 Specialist) in Addision, IL for a general tune-up at a cost of $269 _ the ZR1 has 30,000 miles on it 07-06-01 Andy N takes the ZR1to Roadmaster Transmission in Schaumburg, IL to install a new clutch, cut the flywheel, and have the ZF-6 blueprinted at a cost of $6,046, Andy N is clearly a perfectionist, needless to say this car shifts really nice _ the ZR1 has 31,495 miles on it 09-22-01 Andy N takes the ZR1 to Haibeck Automotive to replace the primary and secondary fuel injectors, fuel injectors are flow matched, general tune-up is performed at a cost of $1,753, Andy N is looking for the last drop of power, Andy N needs to get the ZR1 in top form and be ready for those C5 Z06’s _ the ZR1 has 31,874 miles on it 04-08-02 Andy N moves on, he has taken very good care of the ZR1 but decides to sell the “King” to Mike Q, Mike Q has the Bose Stereo system repaired, the CD in these things is a constant problem but only if you listen to the CD and Andy N apparently did not, Mike Q will continue to spoil the ZR1 11-15-02 Mike Q has the top end (plenum and injectors but not heads) ported by Jim Milstead, top end and cam covers are repainted, and three DynoJet runs are made, highest run is 382 rwhp and 357 Tq, Mike Q wants to be sure he’s faster than those C5 Z06’s, estimated cost is $1,500 12-01-02 Mike Q installs R-D Racing “Cross-Bar”, Mike Q likes a solid car and the “Cross Bar” really firms the ZR1 up, this is a noticeable mod to add to any ZR1, estimated cost is $375 06-30-06 Mike Q likes his wheels and installs CCW 505A’s all around, he mounts 295/30ZR 19 XL Pirelli PZero tires on the front and 345/25ZR20 Pirelli PZero tires rear, this really gives the ZR1 a modern look, btw the second set of GS-C tires made it maybe 20,000 miles, estimated cost is a cool $5,000 09-20-06 Mike Q has big garage but it is full of toys, winter is coming and his wife wants to be inside this year, Mike Q needs to sell something, he ZR1 up for sale and test to market, he gets a dozen offers in just a few days with Brian F having the first shot at it, Brian F has been looking for a well spoiled and period correct “tuner” ZR1 for a number of years _ the ZR1 has 36,483 miles on it 09-25-06 Brian F installs R-D Racing “Camber Brace”, recommended by Mike Q, cost was $289 09-28-06 Brian F installs Prowler Chin Spoiler (splitter), this thing just looks cool, cost was $180 09-28-06 Brian F installs convertible “Mirror Deflectors”, really compliments the Prowler “Big Mouth” Chin Spoiler, no paint needed, cost was $130 09-28-06 Brian F installs DRM SS brake lines and brake bias spring, coming from a modified C5 and looking for a little better “stop” with the ZR1, cost was $142 09-25-06 Brian F installs 95-96 side louvers (painted by Classic Chevrolet), this really updates the ZR1 and is a perfect match with the CCW 505a’s, the Prowler Big Mouth, and the side mirror deflectors, cost was $850 10-10-06 Brian F installs C5 /Z06 High Flow Random Technology Cats, he’s in Texas and needs the cats for inspection, prior DRM system was “off-road”, cost was $765 11-17-06 Brian F installs “Keyless” entry, it’s nice to click and lock, cost was $47 01-23-07 Brian F installs black “Samco” silicon induction hose, this helps assure “no collapse” on acceleration, also did the front plate / cold air mod, maybe worth 10 rwhp, cost was $186 08-20-07 Brian F replaces the Borla cat back with Corsa, they have much better tips and the Borla’s had way too much cabin drone, he keeps the Borla X-pipe, cost was $1,186 08-20-07 Brian F replaces the Grand Sport front calipers with “period correct” black Brembo 4 piston calipers, with these front calipers, the DRM BB spring, and new Bear rotors this car now stops better than a C5, it’s a huge improvement over the Grand Sport calipers, an unbelievable “Stop” for a C4, once you have this system you will go back to GS calipers, cost was $1,858 08-22-07 Brian F replaces all 4 brake rotors with 2 piece Bear Eradispeed rotors, 13” front and stock size rear brake rotors, seems like these grab better than stock but most importantly they really look nice under the CCW 505a’s, cost was $954 11-19-09 Brian F notices the ZR1 is running a little rough, as fuel injectors were replaced and matched by Mark H around the 32,000 mile mark the suspect was the coil packs, Brian F does the “electrical test” and confirms a bad 5/8 coil pack, he pulls the plenum, replaces all 4 coil packs and all 8 spark plug wires, cleans everything spotless, what a work of art in there, the ZR1 runs better than new, cost was a couple of days labor and $315 08-06-10 it’s now time for Brian F to move on, we need a new curator for this fantastic piece of machinery, the LT-5 is truly a piece of art, the mod’s are all “period correct” and look stock, it needs nothing other than to be driven 2-3 times a month _ the ZR1 has 39,000 miles on it This ZR1 is near perfect, with 4.09’s and almost 400 rwhp the pull is a strong as most modified C5’s, the twin cam 32 value runs fantastic and the Watson / Corsa combination sounds unbelievable, as they say if you haven’t heard the ZR1 at 7,000 rpm you are really missing out, this ZR1 has been spoiled all its life and is about a clean as they get, the wheel wells and the underside of this car are cleaner than most corvettes, the paint has been buffed and waxed and pampered to the point where even the swirls are gone, it’s a real show stopper everywhere you go, this car has pretty much all the "period correct" mods you would ever want to make to a ZR-1 without comprimising the streetability or dependability of the "King", it's truely a one of a kind Vette that has been taken care / maintained of by all the right ZR1 people, the history and documentation that comes with this car is tuely remarkable, you will not be disappointed !!! Clear Title, 24ft custom car trailer also available, car is for sale locally ... On Sep-14-10 at 09:20:22 PDT, seller added the following information: Hi everyone, a couple of notes on this special corvette ... 1) the car runs great, looks great, gets a ton of compliments, and has a great history, I love the car as it sits and I would not change anything, but then again that's me ... 2) a whole lot of people seem very interested in being able to run the original 17in ZR-1 wheels, therefor, I have removed the Brembo brake calipers and reinstalled the 96 Grand Sport calipers, this will allow you to run the original 17in wheels without clearance problems, the Brembos brake calipers simply will not fit under the 17in wheels, unfortuantly, I need at least one set of front brake calipers for another car so will I need to keep whichever calipers are not on the car, which right now are the Brembos, hopefully this makes life easier and less complicated for a lot of you ... 2) unfortunalty I do not have the original wheels, however, if someone wants the car at the "buy it now price" I would be more than happy to remove the CCWs and replace them with a set of original ZR-1 wheels (in as nice of condition as the rest of the car / for the 92 this would be the silver sawblades), I would also install a set of new "correct OEM size" GS-C tires on the ZR-1 wheels for you, to recoup my investment I will need to keep the CCW's, hopefully, this will be of help to those of you who want a "closer to stock" ZR-1, jsut ot be sure we're all on the same page this would not include the tire sensors, the origianls are the old band style (not like the current value stem type) and had a tendance to breakoff and then run loose inside the tire (like change in a dryer), not a good deal, they are also hard to find and tend to be exepnsive when you do ... 3) this is a low milage, well documented ZR-1 that is in really really nice condition, in terms of originality, the ported plenum / injector tubes and the 4:09 rear gears are not something that you see and are still correct OEM equipment, they are mods that do not affect the original look of the car but do make it a whole lot funner to drive, power at the flywheel is now close to 500 vs the stock 375, however, the DRM coil overs and the Watson Headers / Corsa Cat Backs, while not immediatly noticable to most people are not stock OEM, they are aftermarket parts, they would need to replaced with OEM parts at some time in the future if that were your goal, other than the coils overs and exhaust the car there is not much to do to retrun the car to original, I do have the front license palt cover and the 92 side gill covers and I have reinstalled the spare tire (never used/has the tire bag), the car has two tops, the smoked glass is on it and the blue top is in the rear hatch, btw_you can see the build sheet when you look up at the gas tank, and yes the interior is as nice as the rest of the car... ... this is a really really clean car, I'm not sure that it has ever been driven in the rain, if you are looking for something that is "done" and in show car condition then this is the car for you, there is not much to do other than wax it occasionally, the paint is really really nice and you have to see it in person to appreciate it, the color combine is fansastic with the blue tint ZR-1 windsheld, I could go on and on but the pictures should tell you everything ... ... please note that this car is also listed on Craigs list locally so I do reserve the right to sell it outside of this listing, btw, thanks for all the inquiries on the trailer, it was also listed on Criags list as well as Ebay, I had way more calls on the trailer than I expecetd and it was sold to the first guy who came over this past weekend, he brought his black Dodge "dualie" with him :) On Sep-14-10 at 09:29:25 PDT, seller added the following information: Ok all, my bad, multitasking and forgot to run spell check before I hit the send button, sorry about that ...
