1981 Volkswagen Caddy Pickup Updates 1. Stock 1.5 Liter Diesel engine replaced with a New modern factory 1.9 liter Turbo-diesel engine installed in a Normally Aspirated configuration with new injectors, glow plugs, gaskets, seals, timing belt, tensioner, etc. 2. BOSH factory remanufactured Injection Pump 3. New engine and transmission mounts, new clutch cable, new accelerator cable, new hood latch cable. 4. All new filters, wiper blades, fluides, and a remanufactured starter. 5. New oil cooler, New Heavy Duty radiator, fan motor, fan switch, all new hoses, thermostat and reservoir. 6. New clutch assembly, new shift linkage, new battery and cables, new water pump, new belts, new steering rack boots. Five speed transmission 7. New front and rear wheel bearings, new drive shafts new front struts, new upper strut bearings and strut mounts, all new brake system that includes new drums, new rotors, new wheel cylinders, new master cylinder. 8. New tires mounted on later model VW Sciracco alloy wheels. 9. New windshield and rubber, new door rubbers, new radio, dash and steering wheel are from a later model GTI. 10. Later model rubber wheel flairs, seats are reupholstered. 11. New exhaust system, tail pipe, hangers, etc. 12. A/C updated with new R-134-A freon 13. New headlight and tail light assemblies,new window cranks, window channels, window scraper moldings. I bought this vehicle from Z/S Imports and it has over $12,000 of improvements. The engine alone sells for around $6,000. It averages 45 mpg and drives like new. The toppers for these trucks are very rare. This topper is in fair condition, the rear topper door in very useable, but worn. Mechanically, it is in very good condition. The a/c works, but seems to really pull down the motor. It has had body work on the front right fender, but it was done well. It has some body work on the leading edge of the hood, that was not so well done. The paint is very thin, maybe a 3 out of 10. The strut towers are like new, no rust. All guages, lights, etc. work. I have put about 2,000 miles on it since this work was done. Economy makes me sell it. These vehicles typically go over 300,000 miles. I owned one back in the 70's that is still on the road. Please keep in mind that this is a 40 year old collector's kind of vehicle and must be accepted as such. Sold as is. Recent Texas plates and inspection.
