Vehicle Detail

Just pulled out of storage today (9-2-10).  Not exactly a barn find, as it was me who parked it in storage 14 years ago with the intent to restore it “in a year”.   I’ve been saying that for almost 2 decades and it’s time this car finds a more motivated owner. Originally an Oklahoma car, I'm the second owner. It has just under 85,500 miles showing on the odometer.  I believe the miles are correct, but cannot guarantee it.  The car was built on May 2, 1968 (Data plate code 02 E) and is one of the “early” cars without headrests.  It is equipped with cruise control, PW, PS, PB, power locks, automatic trunk release, power antennae, and AM/FM stereo.  It came with the special order steering wheel and every available option except 8-track. It is equipped with dual power split bench front seats. The seats are leather and true to the early production date, the back seat has the elaborate stitching.  It is finished in Dark Ivy Gold Metallic, a promotional color with limited availability on the early production cars, with matching top and interior.       Exterior:  It is very straight and the paint is still shiny for being 18-years-old--I had it hauled home and rinsed it off before taking the photos.  All the trim is there except for two small stainless pieces on either side of the trunk lid on the back, and apparently, it came with the dealer installed hood ornament, but all that remains is the mounting bracket.  The lenses are in great shape except for the front driver-side turn signal, which has a small crack (see photo). There is no rust in the hood, front fenders or doors that I can find. There are a couple of small bubbles around the rear wheel openings on both sides (see pictures) and there are two small bubbles in the driver side rear quarter.  There are a couple of small bubbles (quarter sized) on each side of the trunklid (see photos). The vinyl top is not original, and while the vinyl is in good shape, there are numerous rust bubbles underneath (see photos) at the front, down the center and along the rear.   The car is pretty clean underneath, I only saw a little surface rust.  The tires have less than 500 miles on them, though they are 15-years-old.   Interior:  The interior is pretty shabby as can be seen from the pictures.  The dash pad has a large split.  The arm rest on the driver’s door has disintegrated--both the plastic support and the foam pad will need to be replaced.  The mounting bracket on the driver’s side sun visor is broken, but I do have the visor. The turn signal/cruise control lever is cracked and split. The "trunk open" warning light in the ceiling console is burnt out.  The headliner appears to be in good shape with the exception of one seam (see pictures).  The leather seating surfaces are hard and have come apart at the seams in many places.  The upholstery will have to be completely replaced.  The floor boards are solid from what I can tell, and all the interior trim is in place except for one knob on the radio.  The clock does not work and I do not have a battery in the car, so I cannot say as to whether the gauges are working, though, they all worked when the car was parked.   When parked, the front windows worked, but the rear did not.  The power antenna is broken and the aerial is missing.   Mechanical – This car is not running.  The 460 CID 4 bbl is original - not rebuilt to my knowledge.  It had good compression and ran well when I parked it in 1996.  The brakes worked well at the time and transmission shifted well.   For the first 5 years it was stored, I occasionally started the car and let it get up to operating temperature.  I have not tried to start it since August 2001.  The accelerator cable is broken.  The headlight doors and cruise control do not function (vacuum).  The AC compressor had a leak, but was working when parked.  The winning bidder will need to have this car transported.  I will not pay for transportation, but I will be happy to work with whomever the winning bidder hires to haul the car.   $500 deposit due in 48 hours.  Balance due in 7 days. This car is listed locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early should it sell.  I have done my best to describe the car as accurately and honestly as I can.  Toward that end, I will be happy to take more pictures and email them upon request.  Please email any questions.  If you’re not sure you want the car, please don’t bid.  As of today, I have it parked in my driveway where it can be inspected.  Simply contact me and I will give you (or your inspector) directions.   Again, this IS NOT a car you can drive home.  It is listed No Reserve, the high bidder wins.  ****I also have a complete dash pad (black OEM) up for auction - item number 190440924714.
