Vehicle Detail

My old daily driver has become a project, and with baby #3 almost here I'm not allowed any more projects. It's been sitting idle since I drove it to my new house 3 years ago, and will need to be towed or transported to it's new home. It will run, but currently is not running due to a broken ignition switch plug. Rebuilt engine with approximately 45K miles was running great before the switch plug failed. 14" Enkie wheels. To drive this car, it will need the new switch plug wired in (or replace the steering column sub-harness, it's not that hard), new battery, and the rear tires replaced (and fresh oil, coolant, and gas). There are some small areas of rust damage, and the interior has some sun damage. Everything electrically was working, including the clock. The rear brakes were upgraded to the 1981 version, so they are automatically adjusting. Comes with factory shop manual, extra differential, front-end bra, and other odds and ends. I also have a turbo (to be priced and sold separately) sized for that generation 12A or 13B if you want to really play. This used to be a really great car. Somebody please take it home and give it the TLC it deserves. On Sep-02-10 at 10:34:50 PDT, seller added the following information:This car, although complete and not in terribly sad shape, IS a project and has been sitting idle for 3+ years in the Texas sun (with a sun visor). That's why I started this listing with a very low price. Given the number of watchers and questions, I want to further detail the condition of the car that pictures can't really capture. I will also post some more pictures tonight. The engine will run, but doesn't start now since that ignition switch plug basically exploded in my hand. The solder joint for the main power wire cracked and became really iffy. I ended up having to basically hot wire it to drive, until one day I went down there to connect the wires, and the whole plug just popped off the key tumbler mechanism (contacts and springs everywhere). Will need to cut and splice one in from a parts car, or just replace the whole steering column harness. I had one quoted at about $100, and replacing it isn't really that tough. The engine is a complete rebuild, crank, rotors, housing etc. purchased from Mazdatricks (threw an apex seal a long time ago) been about 50K miles and runs very solidly. It is all stock, but does have an oil cooler added. The first thing I would do is replace that funky electric carbueretor and exhaust with good aftermarket. The muffler is a cheap replacement (not OEM or stock configuration). When the ignition wire failed, there was a large backfire of unburned fuel in the exhaust which ripped the muffler along it seam. I have driven the car since then, and there was no other damage. The car has never been wrecked, frame and body are all straight. The suspension and running gear is still tight. Three of the tires show slight cracking, but the right rear is more severe. To drive the car, it must have that tire replaced (all 4 recommended) Exterior: The paint has normal sun-fading on all top surfaces. There is a picture of the areas with rust damage, but I should note that these small spots are somewhat serious. There is real rust penetration, and the area at the bottom of the right side rear fender is damaged completely through. Interior: All the tinting is peeling and coming off. There is considerable sun-fading throughout the whole interior. The carpet and seats are pretty faded. Drivers seat does have a good sized hole in the leather (see picture). The dash is cracked and sun-beaten, even though it has had a visor this whole time. I just opened the glove box to clean it out and now it won't close. I'll look into the latch, but no guarantees I'll fix it before the auction closes. The rear view mirror disintegrated, leaving only the mount attached to the windshield. That's about as complete as I can get. Like I said, it's a project. If you want to make it a nice looking driver, it will take some time $$ and effort, but could happen over a weekend. If you want to make it perfect, gonna take some effort. On Sep-03-10 at 10:43:12 PDT, seller added the following information:Okay, went through the car last night, added some more pictures. The interior actually looks better that I previously stated. The carpet is in really good shape. The door skins do have some cracking in the leather (as can be seen in the pictures), and the plastic surrounds on the handles are pretty much gone. The dash is cracked pretty severely. I did get the glovebox to close. In the picture, the engine looks dirty, but there are no leaks (might give it a cleaning this weekend). The spare tire appears to be the original, never used and in excellent shape. The rubber is still soft and not cracked. All in all, I think whoever ends up with the car will be very happy with it. If it doesn't sell, I won't be disappointed. I may just keep it and fix it up again like I did back in 1997 (don't tell my wife). It was always such a fun car.
