1957 BMW R69 Please read the full ad before Bidding Delivered to 1939 Isle of Man Winner and Munich BMW Dealer Georg (Schorsch) Meier on January 2, 1957* With 45 miles on Frame Up Restoration Completed July, 2010 Offered for Sale by Private Collector Please visit my Photobucket album for larger photos. This 1957 BMW R69 is arguably one of the finest known restored examples of this relatively rare model with a production run of only 2,956 examples made between 1955 and 1960. This example, chassis and matching engine number 652581, was produced in black with white pinstripes on April 17, 1956. It was delivered to the great German motorcycle-racing ace and Munich BMW dealer Georg “Schorsch” Meier on January 2, 1957. Mr. Andreas Harz of BMW Archive in Munich confirms, “The BMW R69 VIN 652581 was manufactured on April 17th. 1956 and delivered on January 2, 1957 to BMW dealer ‘Schorsch’ Meier in Munich. There are no further details mentioned, so we cannot confirm if Meier had this bike for personal use.” Schorsch (the Bavarian diminutive for Georg) Meier was the first foreigner to win the 1939 Senior Isle of Man Tourist Trophy Race and the first to lap the Isle of Man course at an average speed of 90 mph. During the Senior T.T., Meier led from start to finish winning with an average of 89.38 mph. During the Second World War, Meier served as a motorcycle instructor for the German Military Police and as a driver to Wilhelm Canaris, head of the Abwehr, the German military intelligence service from 1939 to 1944.After the war years, Meier returned to racing and between 1947 and 1953 won the German 500 cc championship on a modified pre-war supercharged BMW motorcycle for six out of seven years. Georg Meier retired from racing in 1953 to concentrate on his BMW Motorcycle business. In 1989 on the 50th anniversary of the 1939 Isle of Man TT, Meier demonstrated the BMW Type 255 Kompressor in the Lap of Honor during race week. This meticulous, close attention to detail, frame up restoration was completed in July, 2010. All rubber parts were replaced with correct parts. The original rims were renewed by Buchanan’s and period correct German tires were mounted. A complete new wiring harness was fitted and clean slingers were included in the major motor rebuild with all new gaskets. The highest quality German made replacement parts were used in the restoration process. See list below.Together with an original 1956 ADAC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil Club) bronze tank medallion attached to the tank toolbox cover.
